Email from the school to our new S4 pupils

Dear Parent/Carer,

As we prepare to welcome our young people into S4, I wanted to share some exciting opportunities that will be available to them during the coming school year.

At Springburn Academy, we are committed not only to helping our young people achieve academic success, but also to equipping them with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to thrive in life beyond school. As part of this commitment, our new S4 pupils will have the opportunity to gain additional nationally recognised qualifications that will enhance their personal development, wellbeing and future employability.

This year, pupils will have the opportunity to achieve:

β€’ Level 5 First Aid Award
β€’ Level 5 First Aid for Mental Health Award

These qualifications provide valuable life skills that can make a real difference. They help young people develop confidence, responsibility and resilience, while equipping them with practical knowledge that could one day enable them to support a friend, family member, colleague or even save a life in an emergency situation.

The Level 5 First Aid Award will be delivered within school by our qualified Youth Worker, Harry Bentley. Through this course, pupils will learn how to respond appropriately in emergency situations, develop essential first aid skills and gain a qualification that is highly regarded by employers, colleges and training providers.

We are also delighted to have established a partnership with the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH), who will deliver the Level 5 First Aid for Mental Health Award. This qualification focuses on helping young people recognise signs that someone may be struggling with their mental wellbeing, understand how to offer appropriate support and know when and how to seek further help.

This course reflects our ongoing commitment to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing across our school community. We know that young people face increasing pressures in today’s world, and we want to ensure they have the knowledge, confidence and skills to look after themselves and support others in a safe and informed way.

The First Aid for Mental Health programme will begin this week and will be delivered today and tomorrow and next week on Tuesday and Wednesday in groups of 16 pupils. Pupils selected to participate this week and next week will be informed directly. The programme will continue following the summer break when we return in August.

We recognise that discussions around mental health and wellbeing can sometimes touch upon sensitive experiences for young people. Please be assured that the wellbeing of our pupils remains our highest priority. Both SAMH staff and school colleagues will work closely together throughout the programme, and appropriate support will be available for any young person who may find aspects of the course challenging or triggering. We are committed to ensuring that all pupils feel safe, supported and able to engage with the programme in a way that is appropriate for them.

To ensure pupils gain the maximum benefit from the course, it is important that they arrive promptly for an 8.50am start. Sessions are expected to finish no later than 4.15pm.

We are incredibly proud to be able to offer these opportunities to our young people. Alongside their academic studies, these qualifications will help them develop valuable life skills, strengthen their CVs and personal statements, and prepare them for success in learning, life and work.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We look forward to working together to ensure our young people make the most of these exciting opportunities.

Yours sincerely,

Fill | Springburn Academy Supporting Nurturing Relationships Policy: Parents/Carers Consultation 10/06/2026

Dear Parent/Carer,

At Springburn Academy, we are committed to creating a school environment where every young person feels safe, respected, valued, and supported to thrive.

As part of this commitment, we are currently reviewing and developing our new Supporting Nurturing Relationships Policy. We want this policy to reflect the views and aspirations of our whole school community, and your voice is an important part of that process.

We would be grateful if you could take a few minutes to complete our short questionnaire. Your feedback will help us shape an approach that strengthens relationships, promotes wellbeing, and ensures that all young people receive the support they need to succeed.

The questionnaire should only take a few minutes to complete and we would appreciate if this could be completed by Wednesday 17th June, and all responses will be carefully considered as we finalise our policy.
