GSA Portfolio Preparation The creation of distinctive Fine Art + Design portfolios for HE Applications + other ventures The Course focuses on Fine Art and Design areas.

The GSA 'Portfolio Preparation Course - Creative Practices' runs from August Online (Induction Sessions) and In-Studio (GSA Glasgow City centre Campus) Sept to Feb each year. It is designed to assist students prepare a body of work suitable for application to Art School or a similar course of study or other professional creative practices. It is broad based and flexible in content, project led wit

h drawing at the foundation. Studio critique, personal review and assessment of individuals' work supports the curriculum. Students are encouraged to attend exhibitions and research historic and contemporary artists and designers to help them contextualise and develop their own work. The course runs for 24 weeks (6 months), 2.5 days per week. Students are supported throughout the HE and FE application processes, e-folio (and full) portfolio submissions, including preparation for interviews. The tutors have extensive teaching experience as well as continuing their own practice as artists and designers in their own right. Each year our students are consistently successful in gaining places in their chosen field. Scottish/Home, RUK and International* Students can apply (*International Students - UK 'Standard Visitor Visa' required).

Love, appreciation and congratulations to our colleague Inez Grierson who has been awarded this year’s Studio Award in the annual GSA People Awards 2026. Inez has taught in the Open Studio department for 34 years, including Saturday S5 & S6 Portfolio Preparation classes. Many of her former students (including many of you reading this post!) have since gone on to study with us on and beyond, across all forms of making and specialisms. Congratulations Inez, very well deserved! 👏 💪 🫡
