✨🌿 A little snapshot of learning around our nursery… 🌿✨

Here’s a peek at some of the learning provocations we’ve set up for the children throughout the nursery - thoughtfully created to spark curiosity, creativity, exploration and discovery. 💛

The beauty of these open-ended experiences is that there is no one way to explore them. We love watching the children bring their own ideas and imaginations to each provocation, often taking the learning in directions we hadn’t even anticipated!

By observing their interests, following their lead and adding new materials, questions or challenges along the way, our educators can gently extend and build on the children’s learning while allowing them to remain in control of their play. 🌱

So much learning can come from a thoughtfully prepared space, a few interesting materials and the freedom to wonder, experiment and explore. ✨

Their ideas lead the way - we’re there to help the learning grow. 🌿💫

🦋✨ A little investigating fun for our Butterflies! 🔍

Our curious little learners were presented with a tray full of wrapped-up surprises, inviting them to investigate, explore and discover what was hiding inside! 👀🎁

Using tongs where possible -and those clever tiny fingers when needed - the children worked carefully to unwrap and uncover each hidden object. Just look at the concentration on those little faces! 🥹💛 There was so much focus, persistence and excitement as they worked out how to reveal each surprise.

Such a simple but engaging experience, encouraging fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, problem-solving, curiosity and perseverance through hands-on play.

Tiny fingers, big concentration and lots of exciting discoveries! 🦋✨

🏖️☀️ Before & after… beach tray fun! 🐚

Our beach-inspired sensory tray was ready and waiting with sand, scoops, letters and hidden shells — the perfect invitation for little hands to dig, scoop, search and discover! ✨

The children had fun digging through the sand to uncover the hidden shells, while scooping, pouring and exploring the letters along the way. A simple but engaging experience supporting sensory exploration, fine motor skills, early literacy and lots of curious investigation. 🔤🐚

And then there’s the after shot! 😂🏖️ Shells discovered, sand well and truly explored, and lots of busy little hands having fun — the perfect sign of an experience well enjoyed! 💛

💦🌈 Water Play Fun! 🌈💦

This colourful water provocation was a HUGE hit with the children - they spent AGES exploring, experimenting and coming back for more!

With two different coloured waters and a variety of tools including scoops, pipettes and sponges, the children were challenged to work out how they could transport the water to the tube, send it rolling down and into the other coloured water tray. 💧

There was so much problem-solving and experimentation happening as they discovered which tools worked best. Should they scoop it? Squeeze it? Drip it? How much water could they move at once? 🤔

As the play continued, the children watched with fascination as the two colours gradually began to mix and change, adding another layer of discovery to their play. 🌈✨

🌿🧪 More natural provocation fun - our children are loving these experiences! ✨🌸

This time, our little potion makers were invited to mix, crush, squeeze and create using mortar and pestles, pipettes, colourful water, leaves and a variety of natural treasures. 🍃💧

The children experimented with crushing and grinding their ingredients, carefully transferring coloured water with the pipettes and mixing together their very own lotions and potions. So much curiosity, creativity and wonderful sensory exploration! 🌼🧪

These open-ended experiences are full of learning too - supporting fine motor development, hand-eye coordination, concentration, problem-solving and imaginative play.

🐞🔍 Bug Hunt Fun - before, during & after! 🐛🌿

Our little explorers were invited to investigate a bug-hunting provocation filled with sand, leaves and lots of hidden creepy-crawly treasures!

The children sifted and searched through the sand, using magnifying glasses to take a closer look at their discoveries. Tongs and scoops were used to carefully collect each bug before placing their treasures into the basket. 🪲🦋

So much learning happening through play - building fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration, curiosity and early investigation skills.

🎨 Before, during & after… let the creativity unfold! 🌿✨

A colourful large-scale mark-making provocation filled with possibilities! The children explored a mixture of paintbrushes, rollers, sponges and natural treasures including leaves, flowers and sticks, experimenting with both paint and watercolours.

They brushed, rolled, dabbed, swept and splashed, discovering how different tools, textures and movements created completely different marks. 🖌️🍃🌸

And just have a look at that after shot! 😍🎨 The mess says it all - so much exploring, experimenting, learning and FUN! Sometimes the messiest play creates the richest learning experiences. 💦🌿✨

From before, to during, to after 🌿🧪✨

Our little potion makers got busy exploring, mixing and creating with a wonderful selection of natural materials. Using leaves, flowers, green water, pots, colanders and tongs, the children scooped, poured, strained and combined their ingredients to create their very own magical potions.

A lovely sensory experience filled with curiosity and imagination, while encouraging fine motor skills, coordination, problem-solving and plenty of creative thinking. 🌸🍃💧

Sometimes the magic is all in the making! ✨

From before, to during, to after 🎨🌿

A wonderful journey of large-scale mark making, as the children explored paint using natural objects such as branches and pinecones. They experimented with movement, texture, colour and pattern, discovering the different marks they could create as they worked together on a shared canvas.

A beautiful example of creativity, curiosity, connection with the natural world and just as much joy in the process as in the finished piece! 🍃🖌️

The before ➡️ The during ➡️ The after 👀

A beautifully set-up tuff tray is only the beginning. The real learning happens when little hands take over.

This recent Gruffalo invitation quickly transformed from neat and organised into wonderfully messy-and every scoop, stir, mix and creation told us something about how the children were thinking, exploring and learning.

We don't tidy away the learning just because the tray no longer looks Pinterest-perfect. We celebrate it. Because behind every messy tuff tray is a child who has been curious, creative and completely engaged. ❤️
