Hi folks, Its international teachers day and I wanted to celebrate all you teachers out there who are making the world a better place. I've had some great teachers in general but with regards to guitar I had 3 main teachers who helped me get better when I was younger.
The 1st was my dad! Bless him as I wasn't the best student at 1st but he perserveared with me ALOT which I now do myself with my students and I respect him so much for that. He also taught me the basics of how to hold the instrument, how to play with a pick, and some basic chords.
My 2nd teacher was Iain Maw from my days in 3rd year at secondary school. He taught me finger picking and a little bit of Spanish guitar plus my 1st scale.
My 3rd teacher was Stuart Horn, he was also from my time at secondary school but he taught me alot more in those 2 years that I had ever learned at that point which included more scales and improvisation along with understanding how keys work and how to play and write songs in key. He also introduced me to new ways of playing chords using the whole neck of the guitar and also playing my 1st metal and blues songs. He taught me abit about the industry and gave me the confidence to find a band and start writing and eventually gigging.
Then I had to teach myself alot as there was no YouTube back then but the guy I turn to online for some reminders and new things to learn is Justin Sandercoe aka Justin Guitar, I can't recommended him enough. I also work and have worked with some great teachers at Beatroute Arts who are some of the best in the business.
I've been very lucky and hope to pass it on with my students.
