π Heatwave Alert: Keeping Babies Safe in Hot Weather π
With temperatures high this week, it's more important than ever to help keep babies cool and safe.
π¨ Please don't cover prams, pushchairs or car seats with blankets, muslins or other covers. π¨
Although it might seem like a good way to provide shade, covering a buggy can dramatically increase the temperature inside, creating a risk of overheating, dehydration and increasing the risk of SIDS.
πΆ Why is this dangerous? Covering a pram restricts airflow and traps heat. Even on a mild day, temperatures inside a covered buggy can rise quickly. During a heatwave, this can become dangerous in a very short space of time.
β
Safer alternatives include:
β’ Using a parasol or sunshade designed for prams
β’ Dressing baby in loose, lightweight clothing
β’ Keeping babies out of direct sunlight where possible
β’ Offering regular feeds to help prevent dehydration
β’ Checking baby's temperature regularly
π‘οΈ Remember: If you're feeling hot, your baby is likely feeling even hotter.
Stay safe, stay cool, and enjoy the sunshine responsibly. π
