The Dance School of Scotland opened in 1983 to expertly deliver a vocational dance training course. Later in 1998, our musical theatre course was created to galvanise the exceptional delivery of a broad variety of subjects within the performing arts.
We have 3 courses:
Dance Course, S1-S6
Preparatory Theatre Course, S3 & S4
Musical Theatre Course, S5 & S6
We are in partnership with Hampden Sports Clinic, who provide our physiotherapy, injury prevention and rehabilitation care.
All places on our courses are funded by the Scottish Government and as such, there are no fees. Additionally, we have an excellent on-site residency, which is also funded, for those who live further away. The residency has a passionate pastoral team who provide a home from home.
This year we are celebrating the 40th Anniversary of The Dance School of Scotland and the 25th Anniversary of the Musical Theatre Course. Over the last forty years our graduates have gone on to have wonderful careers across the performing arts, predominantly in ballet/dance companies, west end, theatre, television and film.
👀 Look out for our next Open Day post as we talk you through which subjects and examinations are covered across our courses.

When asked what advice she would offer to The Dance School of Scotland’s young people, this is what Amelie had to say:
“Always go the extra mile and soak up everything The Dance School of Scotland offers. Diligence is a dancers most valuable asset, so always work hard. Also, have fun! Don't beat yourself up; if you are passionate and determined you will get where you need to be.”

- It’s been fantastic to welcome alumni Matt Kennedy back to the studios to deliver a day of workshops to our Musical Theatre young people, before he heads to India and Asia on tour with Mama Mia.
He focused his classes around Mamma Mia and High School Musical 2 which was great fun, with lots of positive talks!
⭐️ Thank you Matt ⭐️

- Our Preparatory Theatre Course young people had a special visit from the incredible Erin Caldwell.
Erin is an Alumna of The Dance School of Scotland (PTC and MTC courses) and is currently wowing audiences performing the role of Jane Seymour in the UK Tour of Six.
It was wonderful to welcome her back to the school and for the young people to meet and have a chat with her.
⭐️ Thank you Erin ⭐️
Erin Caldwell:
- We had a first week back surprise for our S3, S4, S5 and S6 dance course young people on Friday, as we welcomed alumni, Jamie Duncan-Campbell, back to the studios for a day of workshops.
Jamie recently finished performing in the Award Winning Musical - Newsies, and this fantastic musical boasts some of the West End’s most explosive dance numbers. This formed the base of the day’s workshops 🗞️
It was a fantastic day and the young people had an inspirational time with Jamie, with class combinations, Newsies workshop, cool down/stretch and a Question and Answer, giving the young people the opportunity to ask Jamie about his experiences from training and performing to auditioning.
⭐️ Thank you Jamie and we can not wait to have you back again ⭐️
Jamie Duncan-Campbell:
- A huge Dance School of Scotland welcome to our new S1 young people who successfully auditioned for a place at the school earlier in the year.
The first few weeks can be very tiring as they settle in but they’re having lots of fun ⭐️
