Wonderful to see the new mural of Isabella Elder unveiled in Govan!
In 19th century Glasgow, Elder had a vision for education that would outlast her lifetime and she became one of the most significant supporters of women’s learning at the University of Glasgow.

A "beautiful" new mural has been unveiled in Govan to commemorate local philanthropist Lady Isabella Elder, who donated thousands towards the community in the 19th century 💜
The new mural can be found on the side of a tenement building on Langlands Road, next to Elder Park, which opened in 1885 after Lady Isabella gifted it to the people of Govan. It depicts Isabella gazing out over the park with a book in her hand in a nod to her dedication and efforts towards the education sector, particularly women's education.
Painted by local street artist Rogue One, the mural was commissioned by Elderpark Housing Association, who say they are "thrilled" with the result after the scaffolding around the mural was removed on Monday.
