I feel incredibly grateful and fortunate to have been given the most amazing opportunity to spend three weeks volunteering in Santa Chiara in Kenya, an opportunity that truly has been an experience of a lifetime. Travelling alongside Fr Charles and girls that I will be friends with forever and living with the most welcoming and kind-hearted Franciscan Sisters made this journey even more special.
From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed so warmly and looked after by the Franciscan Sisters, the children, teachers and the wider community, and I will always be so thankful for the love and kindness everybody showed us.
The children are truly amazing. Their happiness, kindness, gratefulness and enthusiasm were so inspiring, and seeing their potential and eagerness to learn has stayed with me. I feel so privileged to have been able to spend time with them, along with the amazing teachers, and learn from them.
Being able to experience a different culture, meet so many incredible people, and be a part of such a welcoming community has taught me so much. This experience has changed my perspective on so many different things and helped me become a better person. I have come home with a heart full of memories and gratitude that I know I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
I have already found myself sharing my stories and memories with everyone around me and I know I will continue to do so for years to come.
I will forever cherish these three weeks, the people I met, the children who inspired me, the Sisters who treated us like family and the community that made us feel so at home. I am incredibly lucky to have had this once in a lifetime experience and I will always look back on my time in Kenya with so much gratitude! 🇰🇪❤️
