Training at Yūsei Dōjō is about more than just regular kobudō practice.

Last night, my students and I hopped on a train to Edinburgh for some delicious ramen at Bari-Uma, and an awesome time seeing the fantastic Hirakuza sumo show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

We still have space for adult students, training on a Monday and Wednesday night, to join and become part of our community.

NEW CLASSES

Yūsei Dōjō now has classes on Monday and Wednesday nights, at St James the Less church hall, with availability for new students.

Some photos from our first Monday class show students practicing more advanced hanbōjutsu techniques to start the training with some strong energy, as well as some personal juttejutsu practice - the iconic truncheon weapon, or sword catcher, used by police during Japan’s Edo Period.

NEW CLASSES

New Monday evening classes start tomorrow, 3rd August, 20:00 - 21:30 at St James the Less church hall, with availability for new students.

Kobudō study and practice offers a complete pathway to the cultivation of physically, mentally and spiritually strong martial artists, learning authentic technical skills together with historical knowledge and context.

The curriculum of the Shisenkan International Kobudō Federation, which we follow, includes unarmed fighting as well as a variety of Japanese weaponry drawn from a rich history of warrior traditions, dating all the way back to the 1400s, though training remains relevant and applicable to modern day life.

NEW CLASSES

New Monday evening classes will be starting from 3rd August, 20:00 - 21:30 at St James the Less church hall, with availability for new students.

Shisenkan Kobudō is a complete martial arts system that teaches practical fighting skills but also preserves the traditional and historical techniques of the Japanese samurai warriors and their ryū-ha (martial traditions/schools).

This weekend, I and my green-belt students traveled down to Shisenkan Tenyō Dojo 士仙館天鷹道場 for two days of intensive training. We’re tired but fulfilled, and we have all come home more knowledgeable and more skilful than before. Thank you for having us again. 🙏

This Densho is the official guide to Shisenkan Kenjutsu from Kirigami to Gedan-no-kurai. Its visual and written instructions are invaluable in guiding the beginner to advance deshi.
