After months of sifting through nearly thirty years of notes and small note pads I am finally getting into some sort of system. Came across some good stuff re Riverside and surrounding area. Prior to Riverside being built the land was the home of Strathclyde FC before a compulsory purchase order was issued by Glasgow Corporation 1931. The club then moved to New Springfield Park' aka 'the Strathies' up until it was cleared before the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The housing scheme facing the school was like shanty town as most of the residents lived in surplus First World War Nissen - huts. Great pride was taken by those residents of this hutted township and there was an annual best garden award up for grabs annually. There was however a plague of rats living under the huts...prior to moving to their home ground at Riverside the Strathies played at the Victoria Trotting park which was where the coal-hill was for years.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of my old London Road and Riverside class mate Stevie Coulter. Stevie was a bit of a lad who forever getting myself and our other pal George Gaddi into all sorts of situations in our schooldays and as young adults back in the day. Some great memories of Stevie and one memorable Fair Weekend at Rothesay...where we spent the night in the local police cell. Voluntarily, as we had no money left and had missed the last ferry back to the mainland. Sleep well Stevie Boy and make sure you get some Roostering done behind those pearly gates.

I am hearing that Mr.Dalziel who was at Rivvy and later headmaster of Eastbank Academy has died.

Interest seems to have fallen by the wayside a wee bit on the Riverside board/s in the last few months.
