We spoke to chef, John Beveridge, about the importance of language skills in his job. John has worked in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Dubai, where he developed his Arabic language skills. Throughout his career, John has actively sought to learn and use the language of the country where he has been based, finding this to be an invaluable way to build relationships with his colleagues and enabling him to immerse himself in local culture.

Sharing his advice on learning a language, John says: "My advice to someone learning a language is add a human element to it; listen to the radio in the language you are learning, try to meet people who speak that language. See it as a living thing, not just an academic exercise."
