Urgent Response for Scotland's Geology 24/11/2020

🚰The glass is half full ✨
With just 14 days to go, we are HALFWAY through our campaign and we are so pleased we have hit 53% of our target! Thanks to an anonymous donor, our Crowdfunder received a HUGE (and very much needed) boost📈

👏This is a big help to our campaign, especially since we are just 2 weeks from our finish date. Every £1 has helped us get that much closer to our goal of £35,000, but we still need £16,348⚠️ to succeed. The glass is very much half full here, but we need your help now!

🌟Please donate now🌟 Don't forget, we have some super rewards up for grabs, but act fast as many are limited and have been claimed!
And if you're one of our incredible donors, then help us spread the word about our campaign.

Urgent Response for Scotland's Geology Set-up just before the pandemic, the Trust urgently needs your help to take action for Scotland's geoparks, heritage & communities

GfGD Geoscience and Sustainable Development Higher Education Teaching Module — Geology for Global Development 19/08/2020

Geology for Global Development (GfGD) recognise the increasing demand for the inclusion of sustainability concepts into geoscience teaching within higher education, as well as the impact of Covid-19 on the means of delivering learning resources.

With the above in mind, GfGD are pleased to announce that they have developed a short, open-access module on ‘Geoscience and Sustainable Development’ to be shared with universities across the UK and beyond.

The teaching materials are fully open-access and their use is free of charge. GfGD encourage those who can, to participate in the initiative, where use of the short course translates in supporting the work of GfGD in another area.

Find out more about this exciting new project on their website:

Scotland in the news again for its fossils. The Kerrera millipedes are older than anywhere else including Cowie. The dating technique suggests that Cowie is not quite as old as previously thought, and Kerrera is a bit older.

World's oldest bug is fossil millipede from Scotland A 425-million-year-old millipede fossil from the Scottish island of Kerrera is the world's oldest "bug"—older than any known fossil of an insect, arachnid or other related creepy-crawly, according to researchers at The University of Texas at Austin.

The Geological Society of London - VIRTUAL EVENT - The Future of Geoscience summit The number of students choosing to study geological or Earth sciences at A-level and university is at a record low, and perhaps indicative of a problem in the perception of geoscience in our wider society.  The climate is changing, both in the UK and globally, and with it comes a collective call fo...

Just incase anyone hasnt seen the following statement of University of Glasgow, it is very important to stay safe out in the streets, especially with many of these terrible actions carried out around the Gregory building!
Please if possible travel home with a friend or talk on the phone to someone or even let flatmates know when you’re leaving so that they can expect you home!
We as a society and subject take this very seriously and we want everyone to feel as safe as possible walking home at night, so please if you feel in danger or know anything that is happening please do not hesitate to call the following numbers.
