ND at Kelvingrove:

It was wonderful to meet up with ND friends again last year. Some enjoyed lunch during the organ recital, then we met at our Harry Clarke window where we sang and chatted before many of us, in true ND fashion, retreated to the café for more chat over coffee and cake.

Same again this year?

On Thursday 15th August 2024, a gathering of Notre Dame Sisters, along with folks connected to ND Primary School, ND High School, and ND Training College in Dowanhill, will once again take place in Kelvingrove Art Gallery.

Meet up in Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery to enjoy chat and refreshments and to admire our Harry Clarke window – all are welcome to join us and the earlybirds could take in lunch in the café whilst enjoying the 1pm organ recital beforehand.
Immediately after the organ recital, at about 1.35pm we’ll congregate at the Harry Clarke window on the first floor – to the left of the organ consul – where Anne Morgan will play and we will sing the Salve Regina.

As always there will be plenty of opportunity for further socializing over tea and coffee in the café. Do pass info to others you are in touch with and come along if you are free!

Canon Tommy Hendry has retired from St Teresa's Possilpark after over 33 years .Today was a 'celebration mass' for his time in St Teresa's . Below a photo from a 'younger' Fr Tommy Hendry's days at Notre Dame in the 1970's and from today . You were a FABULOUS school chaplain and an inspiration to us all Fr Hendry . We wish you a happy and well deserved retirement.

A BLAST FROM THE PAST
Beneath the Skies of Picardy
Words by Sister Joan Magdalene SND Music by Sister Elizabeth SND
Recorded in May 1964 in the Convent Chapel at Dowanhill
by the Senior Chamber Choir of Notre Dame High School, Dowanhill, Glasgow.
Conductor: Mrs Noreen Fitzpatrick
Panis Angelicus – Cesar Franck was recorded on the B side of this 45 r.p.m. record

There are a few well Kent ND faces in the photo lineup. How many can you recognise ..…. and how many of you were in this original recording?

Words for the sing along:
Beneath the skies of Picardy
The world was glad, the world was gay,
For Julie’s joyful heart made cares depart
While these words she said each day:

Why do you fret and why are you sad?
Why do you fear that times may be bad?
Cheer up and sing today as we all should
And praise our God who is so good.

No matter where her days were spent,
In harvest field or village store,
She said, “Hold fast God’s hand and you’ll understand
How to love him more and more”

Around the cross of Calvary
She saw her sisters kneel in prayer,
And from this vision began NOTRE DAME’s great plan
To teach the gospel everywhere.

In times of trouble still she smiled,
For in Christ’s heart she placed her fears
And Julie loved to tell how he made her well
After twenty-two long years.

With joy she followed Mary’s way,
For loving God brings joyfulness.
And so to young and old, the praises she told
Of her heavenly Patroness.

That Christ may reign in every heart,
That all may seek to do His will
Was Julie’s prayer on earth, may it be ours now
In NOTRE DAME in DOWANHILL.
