In today’s post about Amina Muslim Women's Resource Centre, we are sharing a short film. “What happens when you walk down the street…if you’re a young woman of colour…who may or may not wear a hijab? Hopscotch, a film by Roxana Vilk based on Nadine Aisha’s 'Hopscotch' produced by Amina MWRC with support from Edinburgh R**e Crisis Centre, explores just that.
Based on the true account of the harassment and violence experienced by women of colour and Muslim women in public spaces, Hopscotch aims to highlight the lived reality for many women across Scotland.”

As part of our campaign to raise funds for Amina Muslim Women's Resource Centre, today we are sharing the charity’s outstanding Violence Against Women (VAG) Programme.
“The programme aims to increase awareness and understanding of issues and relevant services surrounding domestic abuse and honour-based violence to Muslim and Minority Ethnic women in Scotland with the hope of making them feel less isolated and more confident in raising VAW issues in their communities.”
The VAW Programme covers the whole of Scotland and some of the services that they offer include:
• Self-care and storytelling workshops
The workshop focuses on healing and storytelling for women who have experienced any form of honour-based violence. During the workshop the women are encouraged to tell their stories using a visual map of their lives, depicted in scrapbooks. They also learn some gentle but powerful techniques for practicing self-compassion and taking care of themselves.
• Training to service users and agencies on the barriers Muslim and BME women face in leaving abuse, accessing services and how to overcome those barriers.
• Workshops for Muslim and BME women on the various forms of abuse, the law, services available in supporting women to leave abusive relationships.
• Men's Workshops- Shaykh Hassan Rabbani, an Islamic Scholar, delivers workshops to Muslim men on gender equality, tackling domestic abuse, forced marriage and honour-based violence from a faith-based perspective.
• You Can Change This- our campaign to encourage every single person to play their part to actively end violence against women and girls across the world.
These services are vital, and you can find more about them by contacting AMINA’s free helpline on 0808 801 0301.
We are fundraising on behalf of AMINA with all proceeds going directly to the charity. Please donate by following the link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/sumsa-amina-fundraiser...
