A big thank you to all 22 members who took part in our first seasonal blitz tournament of the season. It was a highly competitive and enjoyable night, and a great way to end the first half of the season.
At the top of the table, Rhys McCrosson and two-time blitz winner Jonny Livingston both finished on an impressive 6/7, requiring a tiebreak playoff to decide the champion. After a tense series, Rhys edged the match 2.5–1.5, securing his first ever QPCC blitz tournament win!
Final standings:
🥇 1st – Rhys McCrosson
🥈 2nd – Jonny Livingston
🥉 3rd – Bassey Godwin, finishing strongly with 5/7
The club is now closed for the winter break and will reopen at McNeill’s on Tuesday, 7 January 2026. We look forward to seeing everyone back in the new year for the second-half of the chess season.
Thanks again to all who played and supported the event. ♟️

We return on Tuesday 2nd September, just a week and a half away! 🎉
While The Bungo is undergoing refurbishment, we’ll be meeting upstairs at McNeils Bar until at least mid-October, so please take care not to mix up the venues.
Our first night back on 2nd September will be all about casual chess - the perfect chance to catch up, welcome new faces, and ease back into the season.
On the 9th and 16th of September, we’ll host our Freshers Events, designed for adults aged 18+ with little or no competitive experience. These sessions will introduce chess etiquette, how to record your games, the difference between legal and illegal moves, and the general rules of competitive play. Everyone is welcome to join in, completely free of charge. If you’d rather just play casually, that’s also encouraged. 👨🏫
We’re also now accepting new members for the 2025–2026 season. Membership is only open to ages 18+ and it costs £50, or £25 concession for students, pensioners and the unemployed. Membership includes entry into our Club Championship, seasonal blitz tournaments, simultaneous exhibitions and access to our club WhatsApp communities. It’s open to players of all levels, provided you know the basics of how to move the pieces and checkmate. If you’re unsure about joining, you can still come along and enjoy casual chess at no cost.
To learn more, send us a message here on Facebook or email us at [email protected].
We look forward to seeing plenty of familiar faces - and hopefully some new ones too - as we kick off another great season of chess! 👀

We have recently been informed that our usual venue, The Bungo, will be under refurbishment until mid-October (~6 weeks into the season). We plan to use a temporary venue in the meantime but details are yet to be confirmed. We will provide further details on the venue in use within the next 2 weeks. The QPCC Committee apologises on behalf of the club.
Thank you everyone for your understanding!
