Under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981, employers must:

✅ Ensure staff know who the trained First Aiders are and how to contact them

This applies to all employers—even those with only one or two staff.

🧰 What Counts as “Adequate” First Aid?

That depends on your workplace. A low-risk office will need less than a high-risk site like a warehouse, gym, or construction zone.

Number of employees

Type of work and known hazards

DR ABC: The Primary Survey Explained

Would you know what to do if someone collapsed in front of you?
Knowing how to respond in those first few minutes is crucial. That’s where the Primary Survey comes in—a quick, easy-to-remember process that helps you check for life-threatening conditions and take action fast.

At All Training Solutions Ltd, we teach this life-saving method on every First Aid course. Here’s how it works:

🆘 What Is the Primary Survey?

The Primary Survey is a structured way to assess and treat someone in a first aid emergency. It follows the acronym DR ABC:

✅ D – Danger

Check for danger to yourself, the casualty, and bystanders.
Don’t rush in—make sure it’s safe before approaching.

✅ R – Response

Check if the person is responsive.
Gently shake their shoulders and ask:
“Can you hear me?”
“What’s your name?”

✅ A – Airway

Is their airway clear?

If not responsive, open the airway by tilting their head back and lifting the chin.

Remove obvious obstructions if it’s safe to do so.

✅ B – Breathing

Look, listen, and feel for breathing:

Place your ear near their mouth

Look at the chest for movement

Feel for breath on your cheek
Do this for no more than 10 seconds

✅ C – Circulation

Are they breathing but unconscious?
Put them in the recovery position.
If they are not breathing, begin CPR and call 999 immediately.
