Discussions I’ve been having in schools all week. For many of our young people summer holidays are too long with no contact. They need “keeping in mind” and to know that they’ve not been forgotten to keep relationships open and to remember that they are still a part of school.
It’s alot to ask of teachers to keep in touch over the holidays when they are enjoying a well deserved break - so get some note cards or postcards now and write them in advance so that they can be posted out periodically over the holidays by someone who is willing to take responsibility for the task. It doesn’t need to be lengthy or time consuming a quick note to say hello is all that’s needed.
Parents/ carers if you think this is important for your child’s support needs you could provide cards etc for your teacher to write and give you back to post yourself when required

More sensory chat. The olfactory (smell) area of the brain is directly linked to the hippocampus (memory) and the amygdala (keeps us safe and triggers intense reactions )
Which is why certain smells bring back intense memories and can trigger an emotional response.
I love the smell of the rain after it’s been sunny and I dislike the smell of geranium
Which smells do you love / hate ?

Dyslexics are very bright and learn great skills to mask their learning differences. I encourage all educators to be more curious about your students, especially those that it doesn’t make sense they would be struggling with their reading.
