P7 Outdoor Learning! 🌳

As part of their first outdoor learning session of the year, Primary 7 took part in den building and orienteering at H@PP. 🧭

The children split into groups to engineer their dens, then used their communication and problem-solving skills to navigate around H@PP and find clues. πŸ”

The pupils took time to reflect on their learning throughout the session and relate these experiences to their classroom topic of meta-skills.πŸ™Œ

Our Advanced Higher Geography students have just returned from a very busy educational trip to Lochranza Field Studies Centre on the Isle of Arran. πŸ›₯️🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Along with their much-needed midge nets, the pupils took part in various field studies such as river and coastal waters studies and some soil and vegetation surveys. πŸ₯ΎπŸ”

The trip was an opportunity to take what they are learning outside the classroom, spend time together and enrich their Advanced Higher study topics.πŸ‘βœ¨

A Commonwealth legacy at the SchoolπŸ…

More than 500 athletes from 66 Commonwealth nations and territories trained at the School ahead of the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games β€” using the same facilities our pupils use every day. ✨ Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

The School was proud to be presented one-off Games memorabilia as a lasting reminder of this remarkable connection. πŸ’™

Rector, Mr Mark Ronan, commented,

Music Residential to Dounans 🎢

63 pupils in our Wind, Brass, Percussion, String and Rock Band recently visited Dounans in Aberfoyle for their music residential weekend. 🎻

It was a great opportunity to work on music for the upcoming term, regroup after the summer break, and enjoy the last spell of the great Scottish summer weather. β˜€οΈ

We look forward to hearing all the musical performances coming up across the new session. ✨

70 Years of Friendship Anniversary πŸ’›

It was so special to welcome back FPs Davida and Barbara (C1969), who, on 1956 this very day, started at Hutchesons' in Primary 1 and met each other for the very first time. ✨

Since that day, their friendship has spanned seven decades, and it was wonderful to see them both back in the very place where their journey began as nervous P1 pupils all those years ago. πŸ‘

It is truly heartwarming to see how a friendship formed at Hutchesons' has lasted a lifetime. Davida and Barbara's story is a wonderful reminder that at Hutchesons', it's more than just education; you become part of a community and make friendships that can last forever. πŸ’™

27/08/2026

Before the summer holidays, our P7s, now S1s, had a filming workshop visit from David Maccormack to create something special around their class project: Meta-skills. ✨

Meta-skills are important for everyday life, and this was a fantastic way to put into practice all they have learned in a new and exciting way. πŸ™Œ

With the help of David, pupils wrote, directed, and starred in their own Meta-skills film, and the end result is fantastic! πŸ’™

Well done to our budding film crew, showcasing their use of Meta-skills in real life! ⭐️
