Treetop Outdoor Nursery

Today we were learning all about safety with Simoa the elephant where we did our daily hazard check list and then went through our safety cards talking about what was safe and what was unsafe.

Today we had lots of fun doing many different activities, we first done a bug hunt where we caught a butterfly! We had a close look at it before letting it go, we then did a garden safety inspection going round making sure everything was in order, then to end we made our own volcano watching it errupt.

Today we had lots of fun going for a walk in the woods where we found lots of mini beasts but we were extra exited finding lots of frogs. Then in the afternoon we had a fun dance party all showing our incredible moves.

Litter picking today to help take care of our environment

We started the 30 day Wild Challenge on Monday, from the Wildlife Trust. This weeks activities will be making nature journals, planting herbs, litter picking and fixing up our bug hotel. The children were planting herbs today. These will be used in our mud kitchen.

The children had lots of fun yesterday exploring chemical reactions, making lots of bubbles and fizz with baking soda, vinegar and food colouring. We made a mini-volcano together then they made their own bubbly potions at the potion station, using sticks to stir and mix the different substances together.

On Tuesday the children had lots of fun with water and bubbles - sitting, pouring and mixing at the water tray and potion-making station.

On Friday, the children collected sticks to use as kindling and sorted them into small, medium and large, practising their maths language around size. We had a fire at lunchtime and made cheese and bean toasties with our special toastie maker!

The children in Treetop have had a busy day today with different activities around our Earth Day theme. They have planted broad bean seeds on wet tissue paper in plastic bags, so they can watch the roots and shoots grow over the next few days before we plant them out in the garden. The children have also been exploring a rock pool tuff tray, and talking about the textures of the different seaweeds, pebbles and shells. We talked about the creatures that live in the sea and the importance of keeping the environement clean. Some chlidren also helped to dig holes for little sweet pea plants and construct tee-pee frames for them to climb up as they grow. After planting, the children watered the sweet peas to help them thrive in their new homes.
