We have a lovely signed etching of The Glasgow Academy from Great Western Road, by Wilfred Crawford Applebey (1889 -1959).
He studied at the The Glasgow School of Art and exhibited 48 works at the Glasgow Institute, 3 at Liverpool’s Walker Galley and 14 at the Royal Scottish Academy during his career.
He passed away at age 69 in Newton Mearns in Glasgow.

Today, on the 160th anniversary of The Glasgow Academical Club, it was lovely to receive this wonderful donation of a Barbarians signed shirt from along with a photo of the school team who attended Stirling that day.
Do you recognise yourself in the photo?
Or do you recognise the signatures?

A few weeks ago we had a visit from some former pupils from the School for Girls, one of our predecessor institutions, who merged with The Glasgow Academy in the early 1990s which resulted in The Glasgow Academy becoming co-ed.
They shared memories of their with us during an oral history session, before we had a brief tour of the campus including a stop at Westbourne House on the terrace.
We were also kindly donated some items for our school too.
Thanks ladies, we had a wonderful time!

Yesterday at The Glasgow Academy we celebrated day in our 180th anniversary year 🔔
What better way to mark the occasion than to have our annual Ronnie Woods memorial lecture where we invited Paul Bassett to give his wonderful talk "People Make Glasgow Theatre".
Paul spoke about the history and development of Theatres in Glasgow, (and Grahamston!) which included the Pavilion, Theatre Royal, King's, Alhambra, Henglers Circus and more. But with a particular focus on the Citizens, and its founder Dr O.H. Mavor, aka Playwright James Bridie, one of our former pupils.
We were pleased to welcome Ronnie Woods' family including his daughter, the great-niece of Dr Mavor, and former Westbourne School alumna and actor, Vivien Heilbron. Vivien is probably most well-known known for playing Chris Guthrie in Sunset Song for the BBC in the 1970s. She shared her memories of appearing on stage at the Citz, which was a treat for all.
Thanks to everyone who came along on such a dismal night with traffic restrictions in Glasgow. We appreciate your support!

Our campaign is launching soon, and we’d love your help choosing one of our themes!
We want to make sure the themes we select work for your repository and reflect what matters most to the sector. We’ve suggested three options to get things started, but we’re open to ideas—if there’s something you think we’ve missed, let us know and we’ll do our best to include it in future campaigns.
