How Storytelling turns business messages into engaging calls to action

I'm delighted to be running a half day workshop in collaboration with the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce on Monday 1st June 2026.

This "Beyond the Slide Deck" half day workshop is for those who are ready to step away from Power Point and learn how storytelling is the only method to land your key messages with impact. Let's face it, presentations are part of business life and when there's a lot riding on it (profile, reputation, budget/funding), you want people to understand WHY they should care. Storytelling helps you do that.

So if you've got an important meeting or pitch coming up and don't want to leave it to chance, come along and you'll get a proven structure and framework that you can immediately apply to your prep and your presentation. Once learned, you'll never do it the same way again.

Hope to see you on 1st June!

Say It So It Lands! A 48 Hour Talk Audit.pdf 05/05/2026

Most people treat a talk like an outfit thrown together at the last minute. What if you had a "personal stylist" in your corner to help you style something that actually fits you and your audience? (Note: I am definitely not a personal stylist but I can help you with your talk!)

Do you have a presentation, keynote or important meeting coming up and you're not quite sure if it'll land the way you want it to?

Maybe you've got the content sorted but something feels off — you're not sure if it flows, if it's compelling enough, or if you're really making the impact you want to make. But you've run out of time.

That's exactly what I help with.

I'm a Speaker Coach working with business owners and leaders who want to show up with confidence and deliver a message that actually sticks. The people investing in this skill aren't just getting noticed — they're getting results for their business and themselves.

I'm currently offering a 48-hour talk audit for £220. You send me your talk, I give you clear, practical feedback so you know exactly what's working and what to tighten up.

What You'll Get (within 48 hours):
✅ A short personalised video audit (clear, direct, no fluff)
✅ A rewritten hook that grabs attention immediately
✅ A clean story spine you can actually follow
✅ A stronger close / Call To Action that drives action

If that sounds like what you need right now, drop me a message or find out more here:

Taking stock today of what happened in April as I often forget to do it. I created much more balance in my business, gave back a bit more and leaned into some wonderful support from those in my network.

Just some of the things I got involved in this month:

♻️ Being a Judge in the Circular Economy Challenge Showcase with Young Enterprise and Skills Development Scotland - supporting inspirational pupils to develop their enterprising skills.

🗣️ Supported 's fantastic capacity building initiative for charities and SME's with a Presenting with Impact workshop. Participants learnt how to prep and create compelling content for talks, presentations and pitches

🎤 Supported clients to develop their confidence and storytelling skills in talks and events.

🔍 New and interesting conversations through networking at Scottish Women in Business (SWIB), Multi Club Networking and Club Connect with Victoria Aitken

☺️ Filled my cup with lunch with business friends at the new restaurant at Crossbasket Castle Hotel, Spa & Restaurant, a reset with I Am Jen Wilson, The Healing Rebel and visiting lots of gardens. Also bought an absolute bargain of an ice bath so that's getting established in the garden this weekend for when I can't get to the water.

🎭 Singing with the cast of The Choir of Man as part of Community Choir was an incredible experience. 143 of us stood up in the stalls and belted out Sia's Chandelier. Go and see this show, it's hilarious!

As "it's gonna be MAY" (IYKYK), I am looking forward to everything it will bring.

Firstly it's looking after Luna today then it's dancing my feet off at Streetrave on Sunday. Spending time with those that bring you joy is what it's all about.

Photos: me on the stage at the King's Theatre, Glasgow, in my element. Also my fantastic new bag from Rock On Ruby. If I'm known as Susan Perry Speaker Coach, why not have merch? 😊

Can I ask you something…

Have you ever had something important to say but found yourself overthinking it, watering it down or avoiding saying it altogether?

Maybe it’s speaking up in a meeting.
Maybe it’s presenting an idea.
Maybe it’s speaking up in a meeting.
Maybe it’s presenting an idea.
Maybe it’s putting yourself forward for something you actually want.

It’s not that you don’t know your stuff. It’s that in the moment, the words don’t quite come out how you want them to.

That’s exactly where I come in.

I’m a Speaker Coach, and I work in two ways:
✨ I help people get ready for big moments like TEDx, conferences and events so they feel confident, clear and actually enjoy being on stage
✨ And I support charity teams and leaders to communicate their work in a way that lands, whether that’s presentations, funding bids or influencing conversations

But honestly, it’s all the same thing. Helping you say what you mean, in a way that people hear, understand and act on.

When you work with me, we don’t just “practice speaking”.

We get clear on what you actually want to say and craft a repeatable framework around it so you can use it again and again.
We cut through the waffle and second-guessing.
And you build the confidence to show up without realising it.

So if you’ve been holding back, overthinking or avoiding those moments, you don’t have to keep doing it alone.

Pop me a message, I’m always happy to chat over a virtual coffee.

56 people downloaded my "Keep Them With You" guide in the last few days - thank you! A mix of business owners, leaders and professionals in SME's and Charities.

It's a clear signal that people resonate with the problem: front-load too much context and lose attention before they get to the point.

My advice? INTENT over content every time.

It's not because the content is wrong, it's because you're not being clear why this matters to your audience.

It's like the first 5 mins of a Netflix series you've been told is brilliant but you just don't get it so you switch off. That was Ozark for me! I switched off as it just didn't hold my attention and I didn't want to invest any more time in it (I have since been told stick with it... but there's too many other things to watch in my opinion.)

That’s exactly what “Keep Them With You” is designed to fix.

If you’ve downloaded it already, I’m curious, what’s one thing you’ve noticed about your own communication since reading it?

And if you haven’t had a chance yet, what’s the situation where you feel you lose people most?

If you've not downloaded it yet, here it is again:

“It was 4pm at an all day event and I realised I was still paying attention. That never happens!”

Not because the speaker's topics were more interesting than anything else, but because it was engaging and it resonated with the audience. Because they had prepped to do exactly that.

I always say it's intent over content every time when it comes to crafting any kind of message that needs to land and it's not always about big events and stages.

Most people spend time in their business making an impact but for some reason, when it comes to talking about it, it become tricky.

The doubt kicks in and everything they know seems to disappear. Years of insight and experience gives way to fear of judgement and nerves. Or worse still, a structure and style of presenting and writing that doesn't get results.

What's frustrating is the number of highly competent people who know their stuff who struggle to articulate their messages and that begins a vicious cycle of bad experience = avoidance.

I know because it shows up everywhere for leaders and teams regardless of sector: in meetings, presentations, reports or funding bids.

People don’t switch off because the content is wrong, they're switching off because it's hard to follow, easy to lose track of, or doesn’t feel relevant.

That's why ’ve created a FREE guide with simple practical steps for time challenged leaders and teams who need a hand to land their message.

The guide is called "Keep Them With You" and is a simple way to say what you mean so people stay with you, remember your message and actually do something with it.

It’s a simple way to:
- hold attention
- make your message land
- say things so people actually remember and act on them

You can read it in 5 minutes and use it straight away. Download it and tell me what you think!

Storytelling for Impact Workshops 2026 21/04/2026

#“I hate public speaking.”

I hear this a LOT. Honestly, I don't usually believe it because the people who say this are rarely bad at speaking (generally). The folk that say this:

- care about getting their point across properly
- hate being misunderstood
- can hear, in real time, when what they’re saying isn’t quite landing

In other words… they’re paying attention. So that’s not the problem. The problem is what happens when they start editing themselves mid-sentence, start swapping clear words for “better” ones, try to sound more polished or impressive. Look, not everything requires a TED talk approach! You can overcook and overthink presentations, particularly if it's high stakes.

My advice? Try it. Take the first step and prepare something then:

1. Ask for feedback. Not just any kind of feedback, make it count. Think what specific feedback would be valuable and allow you to move your talk forward - is it about whether your takeaway is clear? Whether it flows coherently? Your pace? Call to action? If you're clear about what you want to improve, it removes the useless and lazy "yeah it was really good" feedback people give.

2. Be prepared to ask yourself and others "what did I do well?" and "what would be even better if...?"

So no, you don’t hate public speaking. Or millions of new frameworks (although mine is particularly good even if I do say so). What you need is to trust yourself and TRY IT.

I speak from personal experience when I say that learning how to tell compelling stories as part of a presentation or workshop actually helps you think clearly under pressure, trust yourself to deliver a message that lands and focus on value to your audience.

That’s the work I do. You don’t just “speak better.” People finally understand you and your message the way you intended.

Storytelling for Impact Workshops 2026 Did you know that stories are remembered 22 times more than data and facts alone? My Storytelling for Impact workshop shows you how.

Photos from Susan Perry Speaker Coaching's post 20/04/2026

This weekend was filled with Japanese Gardens, tulips, lambs and a whole lot of fresh air, fun, family and GGC friends.

It's easy to just keep going when you're self employed so this was a conscious decision to take a break. I don't have children so the concept of a 2 week Easter holiday isn't one I honour as I prefer to take time when the schools are firmly in session. Getting outside and filling up on nature is something that's always been a non negotiable for me so this was just perfect, even if I am still a bit annoyed all the lamb feeding spaces were taken by families 🙃 But if you don't ask, you don't get and I got special access to the lambs and got to meet Tiny Tim, a gorgeous wee lamb.

So I’m practising what I preach, I’m asking.

If you're still on the fence about whether public speaking is something you want to develop and you know your communication isn’t having the impact it should, I want to work with you. I don’t do generic "speaking training", I help you change how people respond to you.

I run workshops for teams, business owners and anyone who's interested in "doing" public speaking differently - for the idea you want to get across, for the important presentation, to get taken seriously and get results. The next workshop is happening next week, check it out here. Enter the code APRIL to get £49 off as a member.

Do you ever think your talk can change minds? Well it can. I've seen it with my own eyes. Whether it's support, collaboration, business growth, investment, you name it.

This handy image is from Nancy Duarte's best selling book Resonate and it's a brilliant way of showing a presentation's structure. A great talk doesn’t just describe reality. It moves people between two worlds.

“What is” = the current state, the problem, the status quo
“What could be” = the possibility, the vision, the better future
And instead of staying in one, powerful speakers alternate between them.

Think of it like guiding someone up a staircase:

You start where they are → this is what’s happening now
Then you lift them → but imagine if…
Then back to reality → right now though, here’s the gap
Then lift again → here’s what’s possible
Each shift builds tension and hope at the same time.
By the end, they don’t just understand your idea
they feel the need for change.

So I wonder if you're being ambitious enough when you speak. Are you asking things to change? For people to trust you? To help people imagine a better life?

Nancy is a communications expert and author of 6 best selling books.

I use techniques like Nancy's in my coaching and I make it really easy for you to layer over your message so that it "resonates" with your audience.

In my workshop on 29th April, we explore this and lots more to get you writing and delivering presentations that land.
