What a wonderful way to start our first week of preschool at Oakington.

We were so lucky to go and visit the library van and had so much fun exploring new books and we also took some back to preschool.

A lovely start to a year full of learning and fun!

It's nspcc PANTS week here at Oakington and we have had a new pants shop open up with lots of different pants for sale. We have also been busy designing our own colourful pants, some with sequins, some with feathers and some with Pom poms.

This week we made elderflower cordial at Oakington Cottontails with our own elderflowers growing in the preschool garden.
We picked the flowers, grated lemon zest and squeezed the lemons! Then we had to wait for 2 days!
Today we strained the cordial and made labels for the bottles, then it was ready to drink. It was delicious 😋

Here at Oakington it's been a busy start to the final 1/2 of this summer term.

We have been enjoying the garden and planted some wild flower seeds as well as some potatoes and have been enjoying watching them grow.
We've also been exploring all the herbs growing in our mud kitchen and deciding which ones we like the smell of the most.

Thank you also to some of our parents who have donated some veg plants for us to grow.

Other activities have included origami and paper plane making, stories read to us by some of our parents, recycling races, practicing our chopping skills and rising 5s had their leavers photos (scroll for a sneak peak!)

At Oakington we have been playing with kinetic sand. We had so much fun and we even made some birthday cakes.

Did you know that kinetic sand is a magical, mess-free sensory toy for preschoolers, it provides massive developmental benefits, including enhanced fine motor skills, improves hand-eye coordination, and calming, self-regulated sensory play that boosts concentration.

Recipe:
- 2 1/2 cups of play sand.
- 1 1/2 cups of cornflour.
- 1/2 cup of oil (We used baby oil).

This morning the rising fives from Girton Cottontails enjoyed a trip to St Andrew's Girton to visit this year's annual art exhibition. We were amazed by all the wonderful art and enjoyed choosing our favourite pieces. Here is just a small selection of some of the works.

We then came back to Cottontails and we were inspired to create our own exhibition with some cards we had brought.
