This is something a little different from our usual Inspire posts, but it fits very closely with what Inspire is about.

At Inspire, we want children and families to feel supported, understood and connected to the right people.

I’ll always do as much as I can to help families find the best support available to them, and this new group is one of those things.

The new Epilepsy Family Support Group in Saffron Walden has been created by Sophie and inspired by her son, Hamish.

Ryan has worked with Sophie before and has also had the pleasure of coaching Hamish himself, so when Sophie got in touch, we were more than happy to help spread the word.

The group is completely free and is for anyone aged 18+ living with epilepsy, or supporting somebody who is.
It meets at Zafferanos Lounge, 12A Market Place, Saffron Walden, on the first Friday of each month from 10am–12pm.

Upcoming dates are: 4th September, 2nd October, 6th November and 4th December.

Sometimes the biggest difference is simply finding people who understand. If this could help your family, or someone you know, please share the poster and help Sophie reach the people who may need it.

Every time Bruce and Bandit go for a walk with the children at Inspire, we pass the woods.

And every time, someone asks:

“Can we go in there?”

Normally Ryan says no…

But on the final day of the summer, we finally said yes.

So off they went for an extra-long walk through the woods — and the children absolutely loved it.

One of the things we really value about Bruce and Bandit’s role at Inspire is how naturally they encourage children to get moving.

There’s no pressure to “exercise”. They’re walking the dogs, exploring, talking, looking for things along the way and wondering where they’re going next.

Before they know it, they’ve walked much further than they probably expected to.

Getting children active is incredibly important, but creating an environment where they actually WANT to move is something we’re particularly proud of.

Bruce and Bandit are a pretty good reason to get your shoes on and head outside.

What makes B&B happy?

Helping children at Inspire.

The walks. The calm moments. The confidence boosts. Simply being nearby when a child needs a bit of space.

They don’t need to do much.

Sometimes just having them there changes the whole feel of the day.

And judging by B&B… they’re pretty happy with that job.

Some people just get children.

And that’s exactly why we’ve loved having .farm at Inspire this summer.

Across four visits, their team have turned up calm, laid-back and completely unfazed. They know when to have a laugh, when to give a child space and when a clear boundary is needed — all while staying professional and making every visit feel easy.

And they REALLY know their animals.

Our children have asked question after question, learnt loads and had the chance to get close to animals they might never normally experience.

We’ve got so many photos from all four visits that this definitely won’t be the last Ark Farm post you see from us.

A massive thank you to the whole team. You fitted into Inspire perfectly.

And judging by the photos… we’re not entirely sure whether the children or the staff enjoyed the animals more.

And that last bit matters...

Giving children the chance to do things for themselves helps build autonomy and competence — both strongly linked with motivation, confidence and wellbeing.
At Inspire, we could step in and do the tricky bits for them.
But where’s the achievement in that?

We’d rather give them the support, time and space to work it out, make mistakes and eventually be able to say:
“I made that.”

And yes… the pancakes tasted pretty good too.

Bruce and Bandit made a surprise appearance at Inspire this afternoon.

One of our children seems to have had the worst luck when it comes to being in on the same days as the dogs this summer. Every time he comes in, he asks Ryan, “Are the dogs here today?” and every time Ryan has had to tell him they’re not.

So today, Ryan decided it was time to surprise him.
We also had another child joining us for his first day back at Inspire this summer, after absolutely loving Bruce and Bandit when he attended at Easter. That made today feel like the perfect day for a visit.

The children just get so much from having B&B around. Whether it’s sitting with them, giving them some attention, taking them for a walk or simply having them nearby, they bring something completely different to the club.

Bruce and Bandit loved their two-hour shift too.
Unfortunately, as the afternoon got warmer, it was time for them to head home before the children did. Their welfare will always come first — even when the children would happily have them stay all day.

A holiday club should be more than just somewhere to make up time.

That has always mattered at Inspire.

A friend once said to Ryan, the owner of the club:

“I used to love holiday clubs because you got to do things you couldn’t do at home.”

And that stuck.

That is why Inspire is not just about filling the day.

It is about creating an environment where children can settle, thrive and be themselves, while also giving them experiences they would not get elsewhere.

Meeting animals. Trying new activities. Making things. Cooking. Getting involved in something they might never have expected to enjoy.

Every parent knows that conversation.

“How was your day?”
“Fine.”
“What did you do?”
“I don’t know.”

That will still happen sometimes, because children are children.

But a big part of Inspire is creating the kind of experiences that mean there is less of that.

Even if the first answer is “fine”, we want there to be something from the day they simply cannot forget to mention!

We never actually planned this...But it is becoming one of the most powerful things to come out of Inspire Holiday Clubs...

We never actually planned this...

But it is becoming one of the most powerful things to come out of Inspire Holiday Clubs.

More and more, children are not just making it through the day with us. They are making friendships that carry on outside the club.

Recently, one parent asked if we could pass their details on because their child had made a new friend at Inspire and was so excited about it.

The other parent replied saying they had been trying to encourage their child to play with others, and hearing they had done it by themselves was lovely. They were more than happy to swap details and organise a play date.
When the first child heard the news, they were so happy.
For many of the children who come to Inspire, this is huge.
Some have felt left out before. Some have struggled in mainstream holiday clubs. Some have not felt safe enough to step out of their comfort zone and speak to someone new.

So when they start asking to see friends outside of club, it tells us something much bigger is happening.

They feel safe. They feel heard. They feel like they belong.
And once a child feels that, friendships can start to happen naturally.

That is what Inspire is about!

Sometimes children do not need a big activity.

They just need a space where being alongside others feels easy.

That is what is about. Calm company, shared moments, simple conversations and children building confidence without feeling like they are being put on the spot.

Because connection does not always have to be forced.

Sometimes it starts with just being there together.

Bookings are now open for both May half term and Summer at Inspire Holiday Clubs.
