Real self defence isn’t leant in perfect conditions.
That’s why we often train in realistic, high-stress scenarios.
Because if you’ve nver experienced your heart racing, vision narrowing, or the pressure of someone aggressively confronting you in training, your first experience of it shouldn’t be on the street.
Yes, it’s intense.
Yes, it can be uncomfortable.
And yes, it has to feel real.
But it also has to be controlled, safe, and professionally supervised. Very few Experts have ability, experience and knowledge to put their students thrugh training like that.
I spent a good half an hour changing my students’ mindset. Getting them out of “training mode” and into the right headspace took time. Only then could they experience the fear, stress and uncertainty needed to create the drills.
