OMG, Italian food! I don't have words for how good food tastes in Italy, and especially in Molise. The olive oil, the white truffles (60% of Italy's entire white truffle production comes from Molise), the fresh fruit and vegetables from a land uncontaminated by pollution (Molise has no airport, no motorway and no heavy industry and is one of the least populated regions of Italy), years of culinary history and tradition come together to create a wonderfully rich and varied cuisine.

Why not come and enjoy an Italian one-day workshop in the beautiful saxon hill-top town of Shaftesbury, in Dorset. Come and learn in the beautiful surrounding of Gold Hill Museum, found at the top of the iconic Gold Hill (famous for the Hovis adverts).

The workshops are divided into three levels; Beginners' +, improvers + and Intermediate/Advanced. There will be two workshops at each level, one grammar based and one culture based. All participants will receive a printed workbook and additional handouts to complement the teaching. The teacher is very experienced, with over 14 years of teaching practice in Italian.

Light refreshments will be provided and lunch will be a bring and share buffet.

Throwback Thursday - Molise and the Molise/Campania border

Most people don't know that Molise is full of incredible archaeological sites that are bereft of tourists. Each time we have visited, we have pretty much been the only visitors on site. The age of some of these sites date back to pre-roman times, to the Samnite Tribes that inhabited the area prior to their ultimate assimilation into Roman society. Other sites date back to medieval times, including the Abbey of San Vincenzo in Volturno, the sacking of which created the development of all the hill towns around it.

Each time students come out to Colli a Volturno for their intensive week courses, they are amazed at the amount of history on their doorstep. Your chance to delve into this history is coming up in September. If you are interested, please do get in touch, places are still available.

In Italian, there are two types of speech; formal and informal. The formal form of speech is used to talk to people in positions of authority, people who are older than us, and adults who are unknown to us. Subjects pronoun use is Lei (the formal you), rather than the informal Tu form.

Throwback Thursday

I have a real thing about windows (finestre) and doors (porte), arches (archi) and alleyways (vialetti), I see them as an entrance to another time, another place. Maybe it's just me dreaming of an escape to Italy once more.

I can't wait to be in Colli a Volturno in Molise again, in September, for the intensive courses. The weather will warm (caldo) but not too (troppo) warm, the town (paese) will have settled into a calming rhythm after the joyful excitement of the school holidays, and people will just be content to sit and chat (chiacchierare) in the afternoon sunshine (sole) or playing Briscola at one of the outdoor tables of one of the local caffe bars.

I can already imagine the feel of the warming sun on my back, the screech overhead of the swallows (rondini) and the constant refrain of the cicadas (cicale).

I can't wait! (non vedo l'ora!)
