A busy and productive day here at REACH HQ finalising and submitting my AMBDA renewal 💪🏻

What is AMBDA and why is it important?

AMBDA stands for Associate Membership of the British Dyslexia Association. It is a professional accreditation indicating a high standard of expertise and professional competence in specialist teaching and diagnostic assessment of Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs).

Holders of AMBDA are required to commit to continuing professional development, keeping abreast of current thinking and legislation in dyslexia and related SpLDs.

AMBDA holders must maintain "active" status by completing continuing professional development (CPD) and renewing every three years.

Wow, those three years have flown by in the blink of an eye and there have been so many changes in the SpLD world, but one thing remains constant - being an assessor and specialist teacher is such a privilege and joy, I only wish I had done it sooner 💙

Seeing the progress this young man made and how much his confidence grew during our lessons was reward enough for me 🥰 but my favourite chocs and a bottle of fizzy joy are the sugar on top!
What a lucky lady I am to have been welcomed into such a lovely family and to receive these gifts, the words in the card brought me to tears 💙

We’re honoured to open a new round of dyslexia assessment bursaries for young people aged 12–21. Every child deserves the chance to understand their dyslexia and get the support that can change the course of their education and their confidence. But for too many families on low incomes, a diagnostic assessment is simply out of reach.

Thanks to our partnership with Theo Paphitis and the incredible team at Ryman, we can offer remote assessments to young people who would otherwise go without. Their fundraising has already changed lives this year, and now we’re able to give even more children the opportunity they deserve.

Did you know that this week is Dyslexia Awareness Week?

The theme this year is ‘Raise the Volume’.

The British Dyslexia Association explain that this year’s theme will focus on the voices of young people with dyslexia – their stories, challenges, and successes. By “raising the volume,” the BDA want to make sure that the lived experiences of young people are heard loud and clear in schools, families, workplaces, and beyond.

Hi everyone, it’s been a while since we posted - apologies for that! Most of you know that technology isn’t our strongest point 🙈

Tonight, I (Jade) attended some training about the newly-announced definition of Dyslexia and my brain is buzzing from all of the information, excitement and a bit of trepidation about what this means for us as assessors 😁

There hasn’t been a change to the definition of Dyslexia since 2010, so it’s been a long time coming and is well overdue. Although there still isn’t a clear date from SASC about when this will be reflected in the report formats, it’s a huge step in the right direction!
