Didn't receive the GCSE grades you expected? Come along to this open day to get advice on your next steps.

Our Youth Skills Programme is designed to support young people (16-18) to achieve the qualifications they need.

Learners on the programme work towards Functional Skills English and Maths qualifications at an appropriate level for them, and have the opportunity to gain an employability qualification, too.

Many Youth Skills learners progress to further learning, employment or an apprenticeship.

One young person did just that, and is now about to graduate from a Level 2 Teaching Assistant course.

They said: “I didn't have a positive experience throughout school and suffered a lot with my mental health. It's amazing how much my life has changed since discovering Learning & Skills. My 16-year-old self would have never thought it was possible to achieve what I have now.

“I'll always be thankful to all the staff I was involved with, as they had such a positive impact on my education.”

Our team is hosting an Open Day on Tuesday 25 August at the Learning and Skills Centre in Gateshead Interchange.

Pop along between between 10am and 3pm to have a chat with our friendly staff about how we can help you take your next steps. 🤝

The people who make future apprentices. 🤝

Meet the advisors of our apprenticeships team, Poppy, Connor and Marie-Sophie. They oversee the promotion of our apprenticeships vacancies, and get in touch with every candidate who applies.

Their focus is to contact every candidate applying within 24 hours, get to know the candidates and assess their profile and how they fit the role, and support them in every way they can to help them on their journey.

Marie-Sophie said: "It feels great to be in touch with motivated candidates every day and be the one following their process from application to getting an apprenticeship."

"If you are someone looking for an apprenticeship, feel free to get in touch, we can't wait to get to know you and help you along the way!"

🎓 A Level Results Day is a moment many young people have been working towards for years. While university is often presented as the next step, it's important to remember that success doesn't follow a single path.

For Bradley Moss, university never felt like the right fit. Instead, after leaving sixth form, he chose a Business Administration apprenticeship with Connected Voice, delivered by our apprenticeships team. A year later, he's gaining valuable workplace experience, developing new skills, and making a real difference through his role supporting Our Gateshead.

When Bradley first considered apprenticeships, he admits he knew very little about them.

"When I thought of an apprenticeship, I just thought of construction. No one had really taught me otherwise."

After doing his own research, he discovered opportunities that combined learning with hands-on experience, including within the charity sector. Through the support of both his employer Connected Voice and us as his apprenticeship provider, Bradley has been able to earn while he learns, building practical skills and knowledge that he can apply every day in the workplace.

Since joining Connected Voice, Bradley has grown in confidence, developed expertise in data management and digital systems, and become a valued member of the team. He's also seen first-hand how his work can support local organisations and help connect people with activities, services and opportunities across Gateshead.

"Growing up, I always wanted to do something that helped people. Being here, I'm seeing the effect that my role and the whole organisation have on people's daily lives. It's incredible."

As students receive their results today and consider what comes next, Bradley's story is a reminder that university isn't the only route to a fulfilling career. Apprenticeships offer the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications, earn a wage, develop workplace skills and make an impact from day one.

Read Bradley's story and discover how an apprenticeship could help you find the path that's right for you, in the comments. 👇
