📢 NEU workplace reps – we need your help!

Every term, as part of our bargaining calendar, reps across the country organise around the same issue in their workplace.

The summer term’s focus is workload.

Workload pressures are being driven by the wider funding crisis in education, with staff expected to do more with less.

Following the overwhelming indicative ballot result earlier this year, the NEU will open a formal ballot for teachers and support staff in England on Saturday 3 October.

NEU members have been taking part in Tyne & Wear May Day march and rally today. Our fabulous DGS, Sarah Kilpatrick is on the speakers bill too.

Tyne & Wear May Day 2026 is in two weeks and, as always, the NEU will be supporting this important event. This year also coincides with the Centenary of the 1926 General Strike.

NEU members who wish to come along should meet at the Bandstand in Exhibition Park, Newcastle from 11am ready for the march which sets off at 11:30. The rally will take place at 12 noon at Grey's Monument and will include a contribution from our Deputy General Secretary, Sarah Kilpatrick alongside several other inspiring speakers.

Today we were thrilled to announce the joint winners of the NEU Northern Rep of the Year award 2026.

Andy Brewerton, Westmorland and Furness Branch Secretary, gave an inspiring explanation as to why they were such worthy winners.

Congratulations to Ella Lewis and Nicoll Floyd from Sacred Heart Primary School.

Ella and Nicoll were instrumental in bringing together NEU members amidst serious building and Health & Safety concerns. Their leadership as reps continues to be incredibly important in finding suitable solutions for the benefit of staff and pupils.
