Year 4 had the most amazing time at the Life Science Centre today. We visited the many zones and investigated how sound and light travels; looked at dinosaurs; broadcast weather shows; experienced being in space and learned how static electricity can travel through us. In the brain zone, we had fun as we tried to trick our brains by doing things like drinking from a fountain that looked like a toilet. The Discovering Chemistry workshop was fantastic and we all dressed as chemists to work in the lab. We used Bunsen burners to create chemical changes; used chemical reactions to change states of matter and gasped in awe as the colours of substances changed dramatically before our eyes. To finish off our wonderful day, we watched a live science show all about dinosaurs. It was interesting to learn how much we have discovered about these fascinating creatures through the fossils found in the ground.

This week, Year 1 have been travelling all around the world from the comfort of their own classroom. Together they have explored the world map and how to use a compass. They have also been fascinated by Google Earth, finding out all about countries they may have visited or would like to visit.

Mrs Saka, one of our parents kindly agreed to talk to Year 4 about Islam today. She brought in The Quran and some prayer mats for us to look at and explained that the timings of Ramadan and Eid are dictated by the crescent shaped moon. We played a game in class where we had to find the moon and Mrs Saka told us that before and during during Ramadan, Muslims look for the moon every night.
The Quran is written in Arabic so we couldn't read or understand it but one of our classmates has been learning Arabic so she read some for us. After listening to The Quran, we wished each other, "Eid Mubarak." which Mrs Saka explained meant " Blessed Eid." We than wrote a promise and a pledge to do something good and kind every day in school.
What a wonderful, insightful afternoon we had! Thank you so much for coming in Mrs Saka.
