Board 6 of 8: Signs That You Are Dehydrated
๐ง Are you drinking enough?
When youโre busy looking after a little one, itโs very easy to spend the day making sure everyone else has what they need and forget about yourself!
Staying hydrated is an important part of looking after your body โ and there are some simple signs that can indicate you may need more fluid.
Look out for things such as:
๐ง Feeling thirsty
๐ง Darker yellow urine
๐ง Feeling tired
๐ง Feeling dizzy or light-headed
๐ง A dry mouth or lips
๐ง Urinating less often
A simple guide is to look at the colour of your urine โ clear, pale yellow is a useful indication that youโre drinking enough.
The Eatwell Guide recommends around 6โ8 cups or glasses of fluid a day as a general guide, although you may need more if youโre breastfeeding, physically active, unwell or the weather is hot.
And remember, it doesnโt all have to be plain water. Drinks such as water, lower-fat milk and sugar-free drinks, including tea and coffee, can contribute to your fluid intake. ๐ฅโ
One really simple habit? Keep a drink nearby when youโre feeding your baby, out with the buggy or exercising. ๐
