Yesterday morning we headed to Onley EC for a fabulous day learning and understanding about biomechanics and anatomy of the horse and how we can improved performance and enhanced wellbeing in horses. This was organised by RDA and was great to see it applied within a riding session where horses and riders can get even more benefits from their sessions.

We are very exciting to be able to use what we have learned and bring it into our sessions.

We will introduce it within our clubs first so they can get hands on with the practice of it. And then expand across into other sessions. This was a fascinating day.

Everyday is a school day 🙌
Love to learn and become the best we can be for you and our horses 🫶

Had to share this from another riding school.
Very current but I am also seeing so many kids on tic tok complaining saying the riding school pony is holding them back 🤷‍♀️(not our riding school), to me, if you feel like that, the riding school pony has done their job perfectly 🙏🏻.
Love your school ponies 🫶
We are blessed to have such an amazing team.

“Confessions of a Riding School Saint”

Hello, human.
Yes, you — the one still trying to find the correct diagonal.

I’m the riding-school horse you meet once a week. You call me “steady,” “safe,” or, when I don’t immediately burst into extended trot, “lazy.” I’ve carried hundreds like you — some with bouncing enthusiasm, others with a death-grip on the reins and a look that says, “Please, not canter.”

Every rider brings their own style. Some kick like they’re starting a lawnmower. Some perch like a baby giraffe learning ballet. One even tried “natural horsemanship” by whispering at me for twenty minutes. (I admired the effort, but grass would have been more persuasive.)

I do my best to translate. But it’s tricky when one person wants me to go forward, the next to collect, and the next to “just feel the rhythm” while clamping both legs and pulling on my face. You’d be confused too.

Sometimes, when the messages get too loud or too mixed, I tune out. You call it “lazy.” I call it “self-preservation.” You see, my job isn’t easy — I must keep everyone safe while pretending your seat bones aren’t trying to send Morse code in three languages at once.

I’ve met every training philosophy going: “forward fixes everything,” “never use the leg,” “ride from the seat,” and my favorite — “just sit deeper!” (Usually shouted as the rider performs a mid-arena levitation.)

But I’ve also met kindness. The quiet rider who remembers to breathe, softens their hand, and says “good” when I try. That’s when I lift my back, stretch my neck, and remember what partnership feels like.

I don’t care about levels or ribbons. I care that you try to understand me. That you see me not as a piece of gym equipment but as a partner — one who has to process your nerves, your posture, and your Spotify playlist of contradictory aids.

So before you call a horse lazy, ask yourself: am I clear? Calm? Consistent?
Because the truth is, I’m not stubborn — I’m exhausted from reading mixed signals.

If you listen, I’ll listen. If you work on you, I’ll meet you halfway — maybe even with a flying change if I’m feeling fancy.

After all, I’m not just your ride. I’m your mirror, your teacher, and occasionally, your unpaid therapist.
Now, pat me. I’ve earned it.

🤍 💚 Exciting 💚 🤍
We have now completed our in house RDA training, DBS checks all back and we are good to go.
I must say we are truly blessed to have such fabulous people volunteering with us to help make these sessions possible.
More volunteers are always welcome, all training given. If you want to get involved and find out more, drop me a message. The more, the merrier.

RDA sessions available as follows.
Monday 19th October 10am-12pm
Wednesday 28th October 3pm-5pm
Wednesday 11th Nov 3pm-5pm
Monday 16th Nov 10am-12pm
Wednesday 25th Nov 3pm-5pm
Monday 30th Nov 10am-12pm

These are 2 hour sessions. £23 per person
Each person will get a ride and are welcome for the full 2hours. We can groom and cover suitable activities on the yard.
Equally riders can just ride and come at an allocated slot within the 2hours. We just want to offer the opportunity to get involved with the ponies for those that would like too.

We can also offer 1-1 riding on a Thursday 10.30am onwards. £28

We can cater for riders living with autism, ADHD, additional needs etc.
Must be able to weight bare due to not having a hoist.
A nice calming environment to enjoy and explore. We go at our riders pace.

Is there a need for non ridden sessions?
Please let me know if there’s any sessions missing you feel yourself and others may benefit from. We are, as always, open to suggestions 🙌

How special is this 🥰
This is what riding is all about .
Motivation, the wins and proving that age is irrelevant to ride and make progress.

Well done everyone 👏

It’s been a fabulous few weeks of amazing success, I appreciate there has been some harder lessons where there’s been some pony changes due to progress on other ponies so a whole new way of riding to learn as they have different buttons, we have seen frustrations and joy and everything in between. That’s what is so great about learning to ride. You’re not just learning to ride, it’s believing just have amazing you are, even in the difficult lessons when it’s been a hard exercise or an awkward pony. Your Building strength physically, resilience - although it’s domino and symbas favourite thing to teach at the moment 🤦‍♀️.

Practice means progress.
Everyone’s journey is different. Some weeks it may feel like no progress is being made, it’s in this time where the change is happening for a lead forwards 🙌.

I want to mention Claire who has got rider of the week, watching Claire is truly inspiring. On Tiny, pushing through nerves, digging deep to continue. One step at a time 👌. Nerves are not holding this lady back 💪🏼

We have seen so many ah ha moments these last few weeks too where it fell into place.

Well done to each and every one of you 👏
