📊 TECHNICAL EXPLAINER: LAUNCH vs SPIN ⛳️
Two numbers you’ll often hear about when using TrackMan are launch angle and spin rate — but what do they actually mean, and how should they work together?
🚀 Launch Angle is the angle the ball leaves the clubface relative to the horizon. It has a major influence on the height and trajectory of your shot.
🔄 Spin Rate is how quickly the golf ball is rotating after impact, measured in RPM. Spin influences the ball’s flight, including how much lift it produces and how it behaves when it lands.
So how should they work together?
It’s all about balance.
Too much launch with too little spin can produce a flight that doesn’t stay in the air effectively. Too much spin with too little launch can create a high-drag flight and cost you distance.
The ideal combination depends on club speed, ball speed, strike, club delivery and the club you’re hitting — there isn’t one magic number that works for everyone.
At TGR Performance Hub, we can use TrackMan data to look beyond the numbers and understand why your ball is flying the way it is — then work on the changes that can actually improve your performance.
📈 Don’t just look at the numbers. Understand them.
