Disrupters in action!

Thank you Mary W Craig for providing yet another thought-provoking session exploring the history of witches, discrimination and inequality and how these issues connect to the UN Global Goals: Good Health & Wellbeing, Quality Education and Reduced Inequalities.

From herb remedies to “potions and spells” The Disrupters were supported to challenge myths, uncover where the term witch came from and explore how discrimination can persist today.

We also questioned what happens when people are persecuted based on accusations, fear and assumptions rather than evidence and why the lack of reliable evidence matters when judging whether someone is truly guilty.

An interactive, eye-opening and full of discussion!

Community and partnership working is a key component of The Disrupters and our team know it!

Yesterday, 32 Disrupters + 6 volunteers + 8 community members turned up for the second round of activities at Stow St Mary of Wedale and Heriot Parish Church

The Disrupters and volunteers turned out in force yesterday to share ideas, choose their Global Goals focus and to have their say on what we could and should be doing!

There was no mid week slump for these guys who were full of ideas, enthusiasm and passion for what they want the Disrupters to achieve 💚🌍

Thank you to Sarah and the team at The Wild Hare for hosting our meeting and supplying us with the refreshments and delicious traybake to keep us fuelled 😉

Monitoring water quality through freshwater invertebrate sampling was yesterday’s Disrupter job 🌍💚

An absolutely fantastic session on Leithen River with the brilliant Elaine Rainey from Buglife - The Invertebrate Conservation Trust who delivered an informative, hands on, interactive and fun session 🤩 and the best bit… The Disrupters, under Elaines guidance, found evidence to confirm The Leithen River is healthy 🤩🌍💚

Yesterday the Disrupters returned to Galashiels for the first of two GoFibre - Scottish Borders / Disrupter sponsored litter picks. 💚🌍🧤🤩

Thank you to GoFibre for our new litter picking equipment and of course the 😎!

A huge thank you to Ellis, the GoFibre Community Engagement Executive for all her support and for joining us on Friday and playing her part in making the 🌍 a better place! The Disrupters loved having her there 😎🤩

As you can see from the video our Disrupters know the right thing to do and take on the challenge with enthusiasm however they do question why people don’t just do the right thing and dispose of their waste correctly especially when picking up other people’s litter resulted in 🐝 stings 😭 -

Join us in Stow on the 11th of September to find out more about the work being done to improve biodiversity. And importantly, how this is being carried out whilst respecting a whole range of views and opinions from the many diverse sections of our community.

During our summer program the Disrupters allocated some time to litter picking 👏
To say they were horrified at what they found and collected would be an understatement 😡🤢 however that didn’t stop them being responsible and doing the right thing 🤩👏
