The Occasional Kitchen Cookery School Husband and wife team, David and Faye Penfold LOVE food ...

David Penfold is a qualified and outstanding primary school teacher How about a little more on us?

COMING IN 2016 ........

We are delighted to finally realise a dream which has been bubbling for over 5 years ... To start our own cookery school in our beloved town of Frome. We are incredibly excited and over the next few months we will put together a program of classes for you to consider. Lessons can be booked on a one off basis, or as a term. Lessons will include hands on cooking, growing, ta

sting and eating together, with lots of goodies to take home. We are husband and wife team, Dave and Faye Penfold. Frome dwellers and Frome's biggest champions who believe passionately in seasonal produce, good quality food, interesting flavour combinations and most importantly ethical farming practices. We believe that good food shouldn't cost the earth and travel hundreds, or even thousands, of miles to arrive on your plate. We aim, where ever possible, to use home grown, locally sourced produce. After all, there is enough of it available in lovely Somerset. When our recipes require world food not grown in this country we try to source this as sustainably as possible, although we have been known to try and grown the odd dragon fruit in our greenhouse. Dave Penfold, a creative and engaging teacher, worked in primary education for over 10 years before he decided it was time to pursue his life long passion of food. Since 2010 we, Dave and Faye, have been running The Old Bakery Supperclub in Frome and more recently we have opened The Refectory Cafe, at The Old Church School. After a stint on Masterchef and a summer catering weddings and festivals, we knuckled down and started planning this, we hope you'll join us along the way. Much love

A sad realisation has dawned on us ... the rogue builder was a total b&£stard and we are going to end up having to pay to redo a lot of his work.

It's devastating!

We're now majorly behind on time and money.

We really do need DIY SOS, gutted that someone has been so unbelievably dishonest to rip off some normal hard working people and as a result have probably stopped our dreams being realised this year.

If you know any decent, honest builders, send them our way!

If you also have some miracles, positive vibes and ideas to get us finished, we'd love to hear them.

Big love

Team Penfold

Hello gorgeous people, we really sorry that we haven't announced any dates for summer yet.

The sad news is that we have been duped by a rogue builder, because of that we are meeting with several new builders but we are behind on time!

We are off to trade at a few festivals over the next few weeks, fingers crossed that gives us the money/time we need to move forwards!

Sadly our building work has derailed :0( schools not ready yet! More news this week I hope!

The builders are STILL here, they will be gone on Tuesday, then we can start planning and sorting things out!

Planning now for our summer school.

Open in August, we are planning two whole weeks of Cookery school, running from 9 - 3 every day.

Too exciting! More news on the sessions coming tomorrow ###

We've been so busy building, we forgot to check in… New dates and information coming next week!

14/04/2017

Musing over regular weekly cookery classes.

We are thinking that a session of about an hour and a half might be the right fit, to include a healthy dinner.

We are just considering age ranges/ability levels for a number of different classes and we will get back to you with a poll to determine the most suitable hours to run the classes.

Thank you for your support and most importantly thank you for letting us spend time with your brilliant and enthusiastic children.

Some genuine masterchefs in the building today! Brilliant week ...

How about some regular classes?

11/04/2017

What a brilliant first day of cookery school today.

All the children worked so hard, and focused brilliantly; making pasta, lemon tart, ragu and bruschetta.

We can't wait to open our doors again tomorrow.
