Here we are with PCSO Victoria outside nursery. We learned all about the role of the police and how to stay safe. Everyone loved sitting in the driver's seat of her squad car and trying on police hats!

We’re excited to be reopening on Monday, so here’s our last activity post for a while:

You could try heading out in search of blackberries. The rainwater just means they’re even cleaner! There are many to be had next to us on Whatcombe Fields, as well as the woodlands nearby.

We’ll be enjoying a well deserved apple and blackberry crumble later!

Today’s activity idea:

Frozen yoghurt buttons

Yoghurt buttons are a favourite snack in our house. We line a baking tray with baking paper and spoon on some blobs of our favourite yogurt. Then pop it in the freezer- they don’t take long to freeze at all. Tasty and refreshing for a warm day!

Here’s an activity from Jess:

Use your padding pool to make giant bubbles. Fill up with paddling pool with some water and washing up liquid. Put a hula hoop in to the water and gently lift to create giant bubbles!

An activity for today:

On such a hot day, you could try painting crushed ice with your child. You can crush your own ice together by wrapping ice cubes in a tea towel and bashing them with a rolling pin. Then using paintbrushes and food colouring or paint your child can experiment with colour mixing and mark making. They’ll also be able to witness the effects of the summer sun on ice!

You could extend this to create your own iced “drinks” using a ladle and cups as the ice turns into water.

An activity idea from Rachel today:

Back garden Volcano. Here is a great way to start a conversation about volcanoes and chemical reactions; getting children to look out for changes i.e change in colour, is it bubbling/ fizzing etc. It also provides an opportunity for children to futher their mathematical skills by measuring out ingredients and observing quantities. We regularly do this activity with the children at nursery and it tends to lead to some brilliant and very imaginative child led play, often centred around magic witches/ fairy potions. The children often hunt around the garden adding flowers, sticks and leaves to make their potions even more special.
