We went in the garden for the first time in ages. The munchkins (and Sarah and I!) were really excited to see 2 frogs hopping around!

The Munchkins did some serious feather collecting on our walk today! There was even a feather exchange going on— Eden was the best feather finder, so he was doing most of the haggling, he was swapping three of his feathers for one of their slightly prettier ones! 😂🪶 C wasn’t having any of it but E and R thought they’d hit the jackpot!!

I have a confession to make… 😢

I’ve completely neglected our veggie patch this year! I’ve been so busy improving the indoor spaces and sorting paperwork ready for our expansion that, combined with the heat, the poor veggie patch has been rather forgotten about.

I have, however, had great success with our hanging-basket cherry tomatoes! Who knew they were so easy to grow?! They’ve been pretty neglected too, but they don’t seem to mind! 🍅

It was just D and me today! We popped to the village shop, where D chose and bought herself (out of my money of course!) some cheese, impressing the lady with her lovely manners. We then walked to the walled gardens, where she enjoyed her cheese while listening to the very noisy cows. She loved watching and counting the goldfish swimming in the pond

I love this tri-fold mirror — it adds a whole new dimension to the Munchkins’ play. They love building in front of it, seeing their creations reflected from different angles, while the younger ones are fascinated by looking at themselves and their friends.

As they play, they’re developing spatial awareness, creativity and problem-solving skills, exploring reflection, symmetry, light and perspective, and beginning to notice how objects can look different depending on where they are placed. For the younger children, mirrors also support self-recognition, body awareness and social development as they watch themselves and interact with their friends.

Our Construction & Maths Shelf

The top of our shelf is dedicated to maths and number exploration. It includes a wide range of resources to help the children develop their understanding of numbers, shapes, patterns, measurement and problem-solving.

Resources include timers, dominoes, maths games, 3D shapes, shape threading, a clock puzzle, Russian dolls and other nesting boxes, as well as lots of number-based resources such as a magnetic fishing game, wooden number boards, wooden numbers, felt numbers, number puzzles, number rods and Numicon.

The area underneath the shelf is devoted to construction, with resources that encourage children to design, build, create and problem-solve. This includes Magna-Tiles, wooden blocks, fabrics and larger-scale loose parts, giving the children lots of opportunities to experiment with different materials, explore balance and stability, and develop their own ideas and creations.
