This weekend we welcomed Fr Ian Bathgate, a former native of Whitehaven, who made an appeal on behalf of the Xaverian Missionaries. Fr Ian had spent 30 years in Mexico and is now parish priest in Glasgow. He told us that missionary people are a people in movement and that mission starts to day and where we are now. Oh... and that we should try a different pew next week!

Summer Reading Challenge Young Volunteers 2023.

The Summer Reading Challenge is back in Cumberland Libraries for 2023 and we need Young Volunteers to play a part in making it another huge success!

We’re recruiting now for young volunteers aged 14-24 years to become reading champions and encourage young people aged 4-11 years to keep reading over the summer holidays. The Summer Reading Challenge theme this year is “Ready, Set, Read!”, produced by The Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with libraries.

The Summer Reading Challenge is always popular and this is a fantastic opportunity for volunteers to be part of a team, building confidence and developing creative skills as they talk to children about the books they’ve read and help staff with activities both online and in the library.

We provide training before the challenge starts and keep a record of all the hours completed. If volunteers are working towards a Duke of Edinburgh award or similar, their logged hours can contribute towards it.

Today we held our Easter Fair. The children enjoyed an Easter Egg hunt, guess the name of the Elephant, guess how many eggs in the jar, pin the tail on the rabbit, a raffle and of course choc and sweets.

Each child was given a bonnet or a basket to decorate and our fabulous judges Jacqueline and Gareth Cameron picked 3 winners from each class. Thank you both and well done children on your awesome designs.

A huge thank you to our PTA, the children loved the event and it was extremely well organised.

As always thank you to our parents, carers, grandparents and older siblings that attended and helped us raise a whopping £152.95! This will go towards paying for our Summer trip.

From all the staff at St Joseph’s have an EGGtrordinary Easter holiday, stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you back on the 17th.
