We see a large number of common words in our reading and, as we become more confident readers, learn to read these instantly. Reading these words without 'Fred talk' means children read more fluently and therefore focus their attention on understanding the text. In school, our children practise 'speedy reading' as part of their daily phonics lessons but any additional practise you can fit in at home would be beneficial. Visit our website to find links to the Speedy Green Word Slideshows.
