From £6 per hour My husband Steve works with me as a childminding assistant.

Find me on www.childcare.Co.uk

I, Amanda Fordham am a Registered Childminder with over 21 years of professional experience in childcare. And I have a second registered assistant Sarah should I need her. I have been married to Steve for 12 years, and together for 17 years, and we have 2 lovely children. I opened for business as a childminder on the 1st June 2008, and Steve has worked with me for 8

years. Prior to childminding I worked in 2 nurseries and a school as part of my 2 year Childcare Diploma course and As a Nanny for 2 families. During my 21 years in childcare I have gained experience caring for children from New born up to 13 years old. And I have experience caring for children with various neurological needs. We believe that children thrive in a safe environment which values their own uniqueness, we offer learning guided by each child’s strengths, interests and curiosities, we guide each child to explore the world around them as well as develop new abilities and form close relationships. All children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage 7 areas of learning and development. communication and language
physical development
personal, social and emotional development
literacy
mathematics
understanding the world
expressive arts and design

I believe in learning through play, expanding the imagination and Socialising. My intention is that all children that attend my setting will gain confidence, good self esteem, good behaviour and language skills, independence and the ability to learn. During a normal day we run similar to a nursery setting with Circle time, learning and structured sessions, creative play, PE time and lots of play indoors and in the garden. We also go on regular walks, forest school sessions, parks and the Beach. All of this offers a wide range of learning opportunities and encourage children to use imagination, gain confidence and self belief to become happy confident adults. I am able to care for your child for as long as you need me, from birth to teenager. Also if you have another baby you can take a break and return to me with both of your children continuing their care in a place they feel is a second home. I will always try to be flexible with shift patterns or unusual situations and may be able to offer collection and drop offs.

This week we said goodbye to 3 term time children who will be going off to school.
We had a wonderful graduation ceremony, picnic & party. It’s always very emotional saying goodbye, but I know I will still see them all out and about.
They got me some lovely gifts!!
The canvas is going up in the playroom!! ###

I just feel I should write something in regards to the news report announcing the opening of 300 new school based nurseries for Stage 1.
Firstly I’m not against the odd school based nursery, however I am against the governments idea that all children need to be in a school based nursery from as young as 9 months (this is their goal) and then those children stay in a school based environment throughout their whole childhood.
The reason they want to do this is they can have less staffing, less requirements on staff education (as being on school grounds changes the requirements for first aid/ all being level 3+ etc), basically overall it will be cheaper, easier in a number of ways for the government to deal with with. And eventually easier for them to control.
I feel sorry for the next generation as they will have very limited life experiences, very limited understanding beyond the 4 walls that they spend the majority of their time.
Yes it will help with some children to have the routine/familiarity and friendships- but not all children require this, and honestly the ones that would benefit would actually be the ones who wouldn’t benefit from being in a large nursery/school based environment from such a young age.
A lot of parents will choose school based nurseries as it will be easier to drop them all in one place, and i get that- but please consider the whole picture- the child’s individual needs- the one to one care that would be given in a smaller environment.

I also think the adverts are very wrong and misleading for these new nurseries.
They are pretty much implying that school nurseries offer so much more and are so much better. This is not true at all- I’ve said the good points above. However smaller nurseries, a childminder, a nanny these all can offer much more one to one care, more individual time, a true bond with the individual child and love.
I love all of the children I have cared for over the years- from my 1st job as a nanny right down to my most cheekiest mindee now. They are all very special, and all individually cared for. I stay in touch with almost all of my families, some are adults now and send me messages about their lives. That is something very special and sadly with the governments plans, this will become something of the past.
I hope parents still choose to support private nurseries and childminders going forward.
It will be a very different future for all otherwise!!

Home from Home Childcare has had such a busy few weeks. Our children have enjoyed a Sports day where we were so proud of them all, showing lots of learnt physical skills! They loved getting stickers and a certificate.
We enjoyed some time at the beach, splashing in the water, picnic on the sand and building castles and mouts.

My school leavers have been getting prepared for leaving, we’ve helped them learn everything they need to be confident and happy entering school.
Soon we will have our graduation ceremony!!

I love my job, even though it’s very hard, I often don’t stop for 11 hours but the rewards of seeing so many children learning, developing and having the confidence ready for leaving for school or further adventures is just amazing!!

I stay in touch with many families.
The children have all grown to be such lovely people, I have one just qualified as a Doctor and another volunteering in Africa building play grounds and play spaces for children.
I’m so proud of all the children that I have had the privilege to care for ###
