And then when the craziness is over and everywhere is cleaned up I sit and ponder the day, the year, the years and think how blessed I am to have this wonderful job. I’m so blessed by the love shown in the cards and gifts I receive and take my time when reading them all. Although this was slightly different this year as I was whipped away half way through by Alex to finally celebrate our 31st Anniversary in Kent. The cards, comments book and transportable presents all came too as I don’t like to rush . Thank you all so much for the generosity, thought, creativity and effort, it is always appreciated, and I do love a practical gift too, so I’m looking forward to seeing the gang in the hats 🧢 🧢

Earlywoods 10th Graduation celebration. Two precious preschoolers who have been at Earlywoods for over 3 years each are now off to school. First we have a ‘ceremony’ in my play garage with all the preschoolers and their families. There’s poems, awards, songs from the children, presents, laughs and a fair few watery eyes 🥺.

Ideally born between 01/04/2024 and 31/08/25

The ideal candidate will love playing, singing, dancing,
getting messy, going on outings to the beach, parks, woods,
the zoo, Jimmys farm and much more.

No experience necessary

Hours of play are minimum 9- 2.45pm but a longer day is available if needed

Days of play available Monday to Thursday

All forms of childcare funding are accepted

And now for the final half term of the academic year. There’s a real mix of emotions, from excitement to sadness, as the 4 year olds spend their last weeks at Earlywoods. The Earlywoods journey prepares each little one for this next big step in life but you can’t beat a good role play to really imbed some of what school will include.

All the little ones start the day practicing their un******ng and dressing skills as their get in to one of the local schools uniform. The bell rings and they line up to go into the Earlywoods school. We take the register, do circle time, practice writing our names, chose a book to put in our book bags and more. We have pictures of inside the schools and have lots of chats about their future days and the things they will be doing. The bell rings for snack time, they love this bit; using the big school plates. But the highlight of the day is P.E in the garage. The children change into their P.E kit and line up for the last lesson of the day.

In the Earlywoods school our topic is transport and much of the session they chose to spend squashed in a bus 😄

April/May we had a wonderful half term out and about in nature, along with our friends from Little bears childcare. It’s a fantastic time of year to learn about life cycles with so much change going on around and this year we focused our learning on ladybird and butterfly life cycles. When our little ladybird larvae had finished their metamorphosis in to adult ladybirds we headed to Holland pits to set them free. The children had a wonderful day spotting landmarks on their picture board, pond dipping, exploring nature all around, running, climbing, stimulating all their senses and finally saying goodbye to our little lady bird family.

With tooth decay being the main reason for hospital admissions for children in the UK the Early Years Foundation stage puts a strong focus on Early years settings teaching children (and families) about dental health. So what better way to teach them about it than turn the setting in to a dental surgery and have a dental nurse visit the children. It’s been a great 3 weeks with many activities supporting the children’s learning but the highlight was a visit to the real dentists. Mary and the team at Frinton Dental Practice were amazing at welcoming us in and teaching the children lots about looking after their teeth.

The snow has long since melted in the Earlywoods ski resort as we have whizzed back in time to the Jurassic period 😊
The children have learnt about dinosaurs, volcanoes, fossils, we’ve made our own fossils, been on a hunt for real fossil, built our own volcanoes, hunted the dinosaurs at Colchester zoo and so much more and it’s only week 2 😊
