It’s that time of year again when mini eggs are lining the supermarket shelves. But, did you know that, just like grapes, they are the perfect size to block a small child’s airway and choke them? And, their hard shell can make it difficult to dislodge with standard first aid techniques.

With whole grapes we advise cutting them in half lengthways and ideally into quarters to create thin strips. But chopping up mini eggs isn’t as easy. So, what can you do?

1. Hide them from the children and eat them yourself – good luck with that!

2. Break them into small pieces with a rolling pin. Or, crush them in a pestle and mortar. Or melt them a little first.

3. Opt for a different treat. Larger, hollow eggs are much safer for little ones.

Wear and tear of household furnishings' and allows childminders to deduct 10% from their income to cover the wear and tear of furniture and household items. This is intended to cover items in a childminder's home that are not used exclusively for their business - such as a sofa that may be used during the course of their work, but also for use by the childminder's family out of working hours.

The wear and tear allowance has been a fundamental part of a childminder's sustainability, which otherwise could mean that the economics of running a childminding business may be less viable.

Retain the 10% wear and tear allowance for childminders, or introduce an equivalent alternative that reflects the additional household costs of providing regulated childcare from home and helps ensure childminding remains financially sustainable.

It has come to our attention that Nestle are recalling some of their infant formula due to potential contamination that may lead to nausea and severe vomiting. I have included the link below to the products which may be affected and advice from the Food Standard Agency.

Sharing is such a complex concept for children. I have always felt that society expects too much too soon of young children. I'm nearly 47 and I don't like sharing my favourite treats however I do love noticing what people need, what makes them smile and going out of my way to do what I can to make that happen.
Rather than focusing on sharing I try to teach children to see each other and make the decision themselves. There is joy in this process we celebrate together 💕

World Jellyfish Day!

I'm so pleased with how our Jellyfish turned out and it was such a lovely activity with the Wild Ones enjoying the sensory experience of the streamers we used to make the jellyfish. I had ordered a lovely book about jellyfish but the seller failed to send so we enjoyed a very rare moment of TV!
