Looking for plans for the summer school holidays? The popular STEM Starts Discovery Centre in Elgin will be opening its doors for three weeks of free sessions starting from Tuesday 14th July.

Previous sessions have been so popular that the centre is opening for nine days over a three-week period with four sessions per day.

This means 36 sessions for over 1,800 children and adults. Dates for these sessions and the full story are below.

This morning we set out to complete our coin run 🩷 the children worked hard as a team to create our snake which we were able to create from one end of the building all the way to the other 🤩🤩 thank you all so much for your donations; altogether we raised an amazing £175 which will go towards our new Tonies characters 👏❤️

Today we celebrate our nursery graduates and make the day all about them 🎓❤️
🤩 We will be saying a fond farewell to 20 of our children 👋 and wishing them and their families all the best for the future and their next family chapter.
Thank you for choosing us and for being a part of our nursery family 🌹🥰
We will see you later grown ups, don't forget your tissues 🥲

🤩Tonies character Fundraiser🤩
Listening to a story on the tonies box, one of the children asked for a tonies character we didn't have so an idea from the children was that we should “collect some coins” to get one so this is what we plan to do 💜 ….

We are looking for donations of coins to complete a coin run in the nursery. These can be any coins from 1p to £2. We are looking to complete a large snake from one end of the nursery and see how far we can go using the coins next Monday 29th June 🐍 the money we raise will go towards buying a new Tonies character which the children have chosen 🩷
We were able to link this to lots of numeracy opportunities, the children are counting, recognising coins and numbers and they have helped create and then vote on a bar graph which character they would like to buy.
We plan on measuring our snake to see how long it is 🐍❤️

Siuthad Alba - Go Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 ⚽

Pronounced shoo-ad, this means "go on" or "let's go" Alba is the Gaelic name for Scotland.

We have been learning about Scotland and where we live, we linked this to a football funday last week in line with the world cup ⚽🥅

The children are also being introduced to some early level Gaelic words.

We spent a wholesome afternoon with our wonderful families for our potted sports day.
The children enjoyed an indoor picnic lunch before welcoming our grown ups for some potted sports 💜🥰✨
A big thank you to Forres Superstore in the Community who donated icecream and cones for a welcome treat at the end 😋🩷🍦

Sir David Attenborough celebrated his 100th birthday on Friday 🥳💚
It was a fitting visit to the Woods on Thursday where the children listened to some facts about Sir David Attenborough from his book. We also used our ICT skills to search for video clips to watch about nature and our planet presented by David Attenborough on friday. Our promise to him is that we will do our best at Pilmuir nursery to instill the wonder of nature and our world to the children in our care, through our wonderful outdoor spaces, visits to the Woods and intentional and responsive planning of activities around the children's interests ❤️🌳🌎🐌

World book day 🌎📚
We have had such a fun Super Tato day following the children's interest in the Super Tato books, we dressed as fruits and vegetables and linked lots of learning activities to our day ❤️

It is lovely to be able to support the young workforce of the future and we hope they enjoy their visit to us ❤️

Last week, we were delighted to welcome the first group of S4–S6 pupils from Forres Academy's Childcare Course, to Pilmuir Nursery, as part of their workplace visits programme.

This marks the first of five visits taking place across February and March, with a total of 25 pupils attending the nursery, accompanied by their class teacher, Mrs Cheryl Poole.

The aim of these sessions is to give young people a real insight into early years practice - from exploring the learning environment and daily routines, to understanding the logistics behind creating a high-quality childcare service. During their visit, pupils enjoyed a tour of the nursery, discussions with staff and the opportunity to engage with the children through play.

It is always a pleasure to strengthen our links with the local school community and we are very grateful to Pilmuir Nursery for hosting us!
