Year 2 spent the day at the Countryside Education Trust in Beaulieu last week, exploring habitats, pond dipping, hunting for minibeasts and discovering how animals use their senses to survive in the wild. Along the way they found dragonfly larvae, a newt, toads and plenty of other fascinating creatures. From pretending to be rabbits, bees and birds to navigating woodland trails like moles, there were lots of opportunities for learning (and fun too).

It was a memorable night on the moor for our Cubs last weekend! There was plenty of fun around the campfire, games, tent pitching and outdoor adventure. The sunshine stayed for the evening, although the rain certainly made itself known overnight!

Our Year 10 artists have worked so hard over this week. A 10-hour Art exam is thrilling, exhausting, challenging, creative and, at times, mind-blowing. The dedication and focus shown by our pupils has been remarkable. Here is a sneak peek of what they have been working on. From acrylics, plaster of Paris and resin to pastels, acetate and coloured pencil, the range of skills and techniques on display has been fantastic. Well done, Year 10.

Our staff enjoyed their own enrichment session on Monday evening as part of our Staff Wellbeing programme. This week, Mr Hill, Head of Design & Technology, led a pewter casting workshop, with staff designing, pouring and enamelling their own keepsakes. Time spent together is time well spent.

Yesterday's Year 1 trip to Carey’s Secret Garden saw pupils exploring wildlife, sowing seeds, potting plants and getting thoroughly stuck into outdoor learning. The highlight for many was the afternoon plant hunt, where they discovered a variety of edible plants - including one leaf that tasted just like beef and onion crisps! A little rain certainly wasn't going to get in the way of a great day out.

Lots of smiles, plenty of cheering and some brilliant swimming at our Pre Prep Swim Gala on Friday! It was lovely to see our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils taking to the pool and earning points for their houses, with lots of encouragement from friends, staff and families. Well done to everyone who took part, and congratulations to Sloden, who came out on top this year!

The Music Department is seeking a Singing Teacher to join the team from September 2026. Singing is a big part of school life at FSM, with four choirs spanning Pre Prep to Senior School, two major musical productions each year, and a programme of formal and informal concerts throughout the year.

Of the 125 music lessons delivered each week, over a third are dedicated to singing, making this an exciting opportunity to work with talented and enthusiastic young musicians.

Year 1 and Year 2 Textile Club have been busy creating their own beach bags as this term's project. The children began by tie-dyeing hessian bags using marbles, elastic bands and ocean-blue dye before designing colourful beach hut appliqués for the front. Using felt, buttons and plenty of careful sewing, they brought their designs to life on bright fabric backgrounds. The finished bags look fantastic, and the children were rightly proud of everything they had designed and made themselves.
