🌊 Stay Water Safe! National Drowning Prevention Week – This Week 🌊

This week we are taking part in National Drowning Prevention Week (Saturday 13 June – Saturday 20 June 2026).

To support this important campaign, the children have been learning vital water safety skills. They have also created some fantastic informative posters to help remind us all how to stay safe in and around water. These are attached for you to view and discuss at home.

💙 Why this matters:

* Vital skills: Water safety awareness can save lives
* Summer readiness: Warmer weather means more trips to pools, beaches and open water
* Awareness: Small reminders can help prevent serious accidents

🏡 How you can help at home:

* Take time to look at and talk about the children’s posters together
* Ask your Year 3 and Year 4 children about the “Safe Swim” rules they have been learning this week

This national campaign is supported by the Royal Life Saving Society UK, helping schools and families build confidence and safety around water.

Thank you for your continued support in helping keep our children safe. 💙

On Friday afternoon, the whole school celebrated Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday! 🎉

We spent the afternoon learning all about his incredible work and his passion for protecting wildlife and our planet. Inspired by his love of nature, we explored our very own pond to see what wildlife we could find. 🌿🐸

The children were so excited to discover lots of pond life — and we even found a newt!

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers for clearing the pond and helping to make this experience possible for everyone. 💚

Year R’s Big Day Out at Longdown Activity Farm! 🚜🐷

Our Year R children had a truly wonderful time visiting Longdown Activity Farm! It was a day filled with "firsts" and lots of smiles as our youngest learners got stuck into farm life.

Some of our favourite moments included:
Bottle-feeding the very hungry kid goats and calves 🍼🐐
Visiting the Animal Encounter Barn to gently stroke the "fluffy" animals 🐥🐹
Burning off energy in the play areas 🚜💨

The children were fantastic—they listened so well to the farmers, asked brilliant questions, and showed such "gentle hands" with all the animals.

A huge thank you to the team at Longdown and to all our parent volunteers who helped make this such a special day of real-world learning. 🌟

Dragonflies took on World Maths Day! 🌎🔢
We had a brilliant day discovering that maths isn’t just in our books—it’s everywhere! From calculating perimeters on the football pitch to mastering circles with compasses and hunting for right angles using set squares, we’ve been busy seeing the world through a mathematical lens. ⚽️📏
The biggest takeaway? No matter what job you dream of doing, maths is the "secret superpower" you’ll need to get it done. 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️
The verdict is in: Maths is definitely FUN! 🤩✨

Exciting News from Hale! 🧬🏗️🎬

Science Week 2026 has officially arrived, and the atmosphere is buzzing! This year, we’re following the national theme: "Curiosity: What’s Your Question?" — and our learners certainly didn’t hold back on day one!

We’ve invited a fantastic range of visitors into school this week to help us uncover the answers. Today’s highlights included:

🧬 The Building Blocks of Life: A huge thank you to our visiting virologist, who took us on a deep dive into the world of DNA and genetics using sweets and strawberries! 🍓

🎮 From Minecraft to Masterpieces: We were joined by a quantity surveyor who showed us the surprising link between building in Minecraft and the real-world science of construction and data.

🎬 Science on the Silver Screen: We also welcomed a special guest who revealed the secrets of how science is used to create movie magic in film!

Thank you so much to our visitors. Our children have been so inspired! It’s been an incredible start to the week, and we’re so proud of the curiosity our Hale community is showing. Keep those questions coming!

✨ World Book Day 2026: Time to GO ALL IN! 📚✨

What a spectacular morning we’ve had! As we celebrate World Book Day 2026 during the National Year Of Reading, our theme this year is to "Go All In" on the things we love through the power of books.

🙌 A Huge Thank You to Parents!
Our classrooms are overflowing with wizards, explorers, and heroes! A massive thank you to all our parents and carers for helping to organise such wonderful costumes. Your incredible effort truly brings the magic of stories to life for the children.

📖 What We've Been Up To:
Designing Our Own Book Tokens: Taking inspiration from the National Book Token competition, we've been getting creative to show how reading connects to our personal passions.
BBC Live Lesson: We are joining schools across the country for a special BBC Live Lesson, diving deep into our favourite interests through reading.

🚀 Coming Up After Lunch: Live Pobble!
We are finishing the day by going "all in" with a Live Pobble session. For those who haven't heard of it, Pobble is a brilliant platform that hosts interactive literacy workshops where children from different schools write together, using a daily "mystery" image to spark their imagination and improve their writing skills.
Let’s keep this momentum going all year! 🌟

🦋 A Special Visit for the Dragonflies! 🥦

Today, the Dragonflies group had a very special guest! We were lucky enough to be visited by Julia, one of our wonderful parents and a professional Dietician.

Julia spent the afternoon teaching us all about "happy tummies" and how we can keep our guts healthy. We learned that eating a rainbow of foods helps us stay strong and full of energy! 🌈
The best part? The taste test! 😋

The children got to be food explorers, trying out a variety of high-fibre, healthy treats. We talked about:
Why fibre is like a superhero for our digestion.
How different fruits and veggies help us grow.
Which "tummy-friendly" foods we liked the most!

A huge thank you to Julia for sharing her expertise and making healthy eating so much fun for the children.

✨ Once Upon a Time at Hale... 🏰

Yesterday was no ordinary day! To celebrate National Tell a Fairy Tale Day, the whole school was whisked away to far-off lands, enchanted forests and mystical kingdoms during a very special visit from a Storytelling Ambassador. 🧚‍♂️📖

From reimagining classic endings to creating brand-new heroes, the children showed us that they are master storytellers in their own right! 🌈

Watching them take the lead and share their tales with such passion was the highlight of our day. After all, every child has a story to tell. 🌟

A huge thank you to our visitor for bringing these timeless classics to life and reminding us all that with a little imagination, anything is possible. 🌈✨

What is your family’s favourite fairy tale? Let us know in the comments! 👇
