Incredibly proud of one of our Senior musicians, Noah, for tackling this very entertaining concerto and wish him all the luck in the upcoming competition.

Our final soloist is Noah Burns, bringing us Artie Shaw's little known but hugely entertaining Concerto for Clarinet.

Passionate about classical, jazz and film music, 15 year old Noah studies clarinet and
saxophone with James Rawlinson and piano with Simon Gilliver.
Noah is a member of Poole Society for Young Musicians, and trains with PSYM Symphonic Winds, Camerata Chamber groups and the main Symphony Orchestra.
Grasping the opportunity to work with musicians from all over the country and taking part in residential courses, Noah is a member of the National Youth Wind Orchestra Jazz Group.
Last year Noah shared the role of Principal Clarinet in the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain, Main Orchestra. Prior to joining NCO, Noah was Principal Clarinet with National Schools Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia.
Noah says: “I chose the Artie Shaw Concerto because I love that era of jazz and the fun I have when playing it. Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman were such inspiring players, and the theatrics they were able to include in their solos seemed to come so freely and easily to them. It is so satisfying to be able to play this music, and I look forward to seeing the orchestra and audience have as much fun as I am.”

We are certainly enjoying learning it, and are very sure the audience will love it too, Noah!

Huge congratulations to our Chamber Choir for coming 3rd in their group today at the choirs section of the Bournemouth Performing Arts Festival held at 🎵

Competing against 6th form choirs, they really held their own. The adjudicator described their singing as ‘serene’ and that for a small group it was great to hear them singing in 3 parts. Finally he went on to say..’ lots to enjoy here…you have the potential to be even better and reach greater heights, go for it!’.

Well done once again to this group who are going from strength to strength!

Super proud of our musicians, WELL DONE!

It’s been a busy and productive week for our GCSE crew! 🎼

From interactive revision session at the Smart Board to master key terminology, to that exciting (and slightly nerve-wracking!) moment of opening up the software for the first time and starting their composition coursework.

So proud of their focus! ✨

They’re flying!

The prep school had a session with Mrs Morley today working on a short section of one of the ensemble numbers in Peter Pan.

In true FSM fashion, each and every child threw themselves into the dancing and singing… if this is what they can achieve after 20 minutes, we can’t wait to see what it will be like when we really get stuck in.

Well done Prep School for brightening a rather dreary day ☔️

🎶 Introducing “Know The Score” 🎶

We’re delighted to launch our new after-school music club, Know The Score! This club supports pupils in developing their music theory skills at every stage — whether they are thinking about GCSE Music, would like extra guidance to build confidence, or just want to strengthen their understanding alongside 1:1 lessons.

The club has also created a lovely opportunity for pupils from different year groups to learn together, with younger students working alongside GCSE Music pupils. Sometimes ideas make more sense when they come from peers, and this supportive, friendly environment encourages shared learning, growing confidence, and a real sense of musical community right across the school.

We are thrilled to announce that our prep school students will be performing Peter Pan Jr. this May!

The pupils only found out this week — and there were screams of excitement heard from the FOSM room at the announcement.

To make sure everyone fully understood the plot, the Performing Arts team treated them to a short pantomime-style performance of the story, much to the children’s delight! 🎭 (Mr McNally even came armed with a home made Captain Hook crook!)

The pupils are now raring to go and keen to get stuck into workshops over the coming weeks, as we begin bringing Neverland to life. The cast list will be announced soon — watch this space! 🧚‍♂️✨

Is there a better way to start a beautifully sunny Thursday at school, than with a piano lesson with one of our 5 piano teachers?! (yes, we have 5… piano is very popular!)

One of our reception pupils was captured skipping off to his lesson this morning clutching his (very snazzy) folder, eager and ready to learn.

75% of our Pre-Prep pupils learn piano here at FSM (which start at 20 minutes) with some of our Y2 pupils taking up further instruments such as the Cello and Drums!
