As a millennial parent, is there anything more regulating than listening to 36 seconds of Blink-182 vocals while lengthening your breaths? 😂🤘

Meanwhile, she’s balancing along a log in a lake.
Both nervous system resets. Different strategies.

Children often find regulation through movement, challenge, sensory input, fresh air and play. Adults might need a longer exhale and a song that immediately transports them back to 2003. 😅

Regulation doesn’t always look calm... Sometimes it looks like climbing, balancing, splashing, moving, singing… or breathing along to some nostalgic noughties pop punk.

Whatever helps us come back to ourselves. 💚

Conkers. Pipes. Egg boxes. 🍂

Nothing fancy. Just a few simple things left out to see what the children might do with them.

Posting, rolling, counting, lining up, testing ideas, solving problems, changing things when they don’t quite work…

No instructions. No finished product to aim for. Just loads of lovely learning happening through play. 💚

October half term at Børn of the Forest is looking BUSY 🍂 We’ve got a full week of ways to get outside, play, connect and spend some quality time in the woods.

Holiday Club is running Monday–Thursday, with Tuesday and Thursday now fully booked. Limited spaces still available on the Monday and Wednesday.

On Friday we’ve got Preschool Play & Family Play.

Then on Sunday we’re launching something brand new — our Climate & Nature Action Group for young people aged 10+. A free monthly drop-off session, offering space to talk about the climate crisis, connect with other young people who care, and explore positive, age-appropriate action together. The group will be shaped by the young people who come along — including what we focus on and even what the group's called.

Bookings are open now!!

This audio!! 🥹 ...they're definitely taking care of us!

Keeping us outside.
Making us notice tiny things.
Reminding us that sticks are treasure, puddles are for jumping in and snacks always taste better outdoors.
Getting us to slow down when we probably wouldn’t have otherwise.

We spend so much time thinking about everything children gain from time in nature. But don’t talk enough about what they give back to us too. 💚

Anyone else being very well looked after?

We want resilient children.

Then we remove every opportunity they have to struggle...

We step in when something feels difficult. We fix it when it isn’t working. We show them the “right” way before they’ve had chance to find their own.

And usually, we’re doing it because we’re trying to help. I'll hold my hands up and say I catch myself doing this with my own children too!

But resilience isn’t built when everything goes smoothly. It’s built in those little moments when something doesn’t work. When a child has to pause, rethink, try something different, make a mistake… and try again.

That doesn’t mean leaving children overwhelmed, expecting them to manage something beyond their capabilities, or refusing to help when they genuinely need us.

But when something is within their capabilities, sometimes the most useful thing we can do is resist the urge to take over.

And if they ask for help, try asking:
“How can I help?”
Then give the least amount of help they need to keep going.

Maybe that’s holding something steady.
Maybe it’s one small prompt.
Maybe it’s helping with just one part of the problem.

Enough support to help them move forward — without doing the part they’re capable of working out for themselves.

Because not every struggle needs rescuing from. Often, the struggle is exactly where the learning is. 🌱

FREE Home Education Taster Session

Thinking about home education, newly home educating, or looking to add Forest School to your child’s home-ed week?

Come and spend some time with us in our woodland and discover how Børn of the Forest could support your family on your home education journey.

This is a free, relaxed taster session for home-educating families who would like to experience our setting, meet the team and find out a little more about the kinds of opportunities we could offer.

There’s no expectation to sign up for anything afterwards – we’re also really keen to hear from local home-ed families about what you actually want and need.

During the session, children will have time to explore the woodland, play, create, build, investigate and follow their own interests, supported by our experienced Forest School team.

For grown-ups, it’s a chance to:
🍃 Experience the Børn of the Forest approach first-hand
🍃 Chat to us about your child and what they enjoy or find challenging
🍃 Find out about the different ways we may be able to support home-educated children
🍃 Meet other local home-ed families
🍃 Help shape what our future home-ed provision might look like... We’re particularly interested in hearing what would work for families – whether that’s regular weekly sessions, project-based learning, small-group opportunities, occasional workshops, SEND-friendly provision or something else entirely.

Who is it for?:
Home-educated children and their grown-ups, including families who are very new to home education or are simply exploring whether it might be right for them.

Cost:
FREE!! But, spaces are limited so please only book if you genuinely intend to come. If your plans change, we completely understand – we just ask that you cancel your place as soon as possible so another family can attend. Please book.your space here- https://bookwhen.com/bornoftheforest/e/ev-shuu0-20260924100000

We hope to see you there 🌳

Something new is growing… 🌱

For years, through our work with Børn of the Forest, we've supported thousands of children and families in their nature connection journeys.

And during that time, we've learnt a lot about what children need to thrive outdoors... but also about what we, as the adults alongside them, need too.

Because it isn't always more activity ideas.
Sometimes it's knowing when to step back. How to follow a child's curiosity. How to support challenge, frustration and risk. How to recognise the learning and growth already happening in ordinary moments.
And we've been quietly growing something that brings all of that together…

Meet Kinature 🌿
kin + nature

Personalised ideas, guidance and support to help families grow, learn and connect — with each other and with nature.

Launching 6th October 2026.

We can't wait to show you what we've been building. We hope you'll follow along for the journey .app 💚
