I was walking by Objectables this morning and spotted a great game for non-verbal reasoning skills: Hexagone! 🛑

Games like this are absolute gold. They help students develop spatial awareness, pattern recognition and strategic planning, which are key components of non-verbal reasoning tests.

The best part? Objectables is actually having a sale on games right now! It’s the perfect time to grab a great learning resource while supporting one of our fantastic local businesses. 🛍️

Whether you're preparing for the 11+ or just want to sharpen those problem-solving "muscles," hands-on play is often the best way to make the logic click.

🔓Unlock the ‘c’ code! 🔏

Did you know that the letter ‘c’ is the foundation of many other letters? Master this one anti-clockwise curve and letters like a, d, g, q and o suddenly become much easier to tackle.

I’ve been working closely with some of my students to go back to basics, focusing on the fundamental building blocks of literacy:

✍️Consistent letter formation (starting with that crucial ‘c’!)

📝Confidence in spelling through proven patterns

✍️Neat, legible handwriting for children of all ages

Small tweaks in technique lead to big transformations in confidence. 🖋️✨

450,000 disadvantaged pupils could benefit from AI tutoring tools 27/01/2026

No, no, no. 🤦‍♀️

AI is NOT the answer. In fact, it's quite the opposite. While AI is a great tool for *some* things, it's not a replacement for instruction by a qualified professional.

Why?

👩‍🏫 AI does not genuinely care. Teachers read subtle body language and adjust their emotional approach to encourage students who are struggling or overwhelmed.

👩‍🏫 Children learn character from observing adults. AI cannot model resilience, humility, integrity or how to handle failure.

👩‍🏫 AI algorithms predict "average" answers. Teachers challenge students to think outside the box, debate and question norms.

👩‍🏫 Education involves learning to work with others. AI cannot mediate conflicts, teach negotiation or foster teamwork skills.

👩‍🏫 Relationships with children are essential. We work harder for people we respect. The desire to make a teacher proud or not let a mentor down provides motivation that a chatbot cannot replicate.

👩‍🏫 Teachers are the frontline for spotting signs of abuse, neglect or mental health crises that algorithms will miss.

👩‍🏫 AI lacks "world knowledge." Teachers understand local culture, current events, and the specific vibe of the classroom on any given day.

👩‍🏫 AI cannot physically correct a grip on a pen, a posture in sports or a technique in a science lab.

👩‍🏫 AI gives instant answers. Teachers know when to withhold answers to force productive struggle, which helps build deep understanding.

👩‍🏫 AI prioritises sounding convincing over being correct. While a teacher might occasionally be wrong, they don't 'hallucinate' entire historical events with total confidence.

While the government’s commitment to supporting disadvantaged pupils is commendable, relying on AI tutoring tools creates more problems than solves them.

450,000 disadvantaged pupils could benefit from AI tutoring tools Safe AI tutoring tools co-created with teachers to be available to schools by the end of 2027, helping to close the attainment gap.

Building 11+ Confidence

Reasoning isn't just about passing a test—it's about developing sharp logic, pattern recognition and a robust vocabulary.

I've put together a few of my favourite ways to sharpen these skills at home. These games are designed to help children:

✅ Identify visual patterns (Non-Verbal)
✅ Expand lexical connections (Verbal)
✅ Improve focus and problem-solving speed

Looking for 11+ support? Send me a DM or email me at [email protected] to see how I can help your child succeed.
