If back to school is on your mind already, you may well be a parent to a ND child, or a teacher 😜

As a parent to neurodiverse children and a practitioner supporting children back into the setting , it really is all about the 'calm' (and the good snacks πŸ˜‰)

This page offers some wonderful advice to keep those mornings as calm as possible πŸ€—

What's the biggest thing that helps your child in the transition from holidays to school / childcare ?

School mornings can feel like a lot before the day has even properly begun β€” especially for a neurodivergent child who may already be managing transitions, sensory needs, executive functioning demands and anxiety about what lies ahead.

A few small changes can reduce the number of demands their brain has to process first thing. Preparing things the night before, keeping routines predictable, allowing extra transition time and using fewer words when stress is rising can all help make mornings feel more manageable.

It isn’t about creating a β€œperfect” morning. It’s about removing some of the pressure points where we can.

If you would like a copy of my BiteSize Guide to Back to School for the Neurodivergent Child, follow the page, like this post and let me know in the comments. All steps must be completed.

One of the most enjoyed activities this term has been the dinosaur swamp πŸ˜€ Such a super sensory activity and the dinosaurs had an awesome adventure.
Chia seeds, food colouring and water πŸ‘Œ

Poppy seed heads make the most incredible natural paint stamps , the pattern they create is gorgeous. We also talked about colour mixing, and explored what happened when we mixed red and blue πŸ’œ

Balancing stones, chalk board mark making with chalk and paint brushes with water, playdough dinosaurs, row row your boat encouraging a love of rhyme time and creating teamwork and friendships. What's in the box πŸ“¦ πŸ‘€ So great for taking turns, and increasing vocabulary. Flower cutting practice with scissors, and looking closely under the magnifying glasses. Water play, fishing game, ball throwing and catching, scooping bubbles with shells, talks of toast πŸ˜ƒ, frogs, park trips, diggers discovering artifacts and dinosaur fossils buried in the sand.

What a busy time we've had learning whilst having the best fun 😁

One of my favourite activities with the children is cooking. This time of year the garden is providing an abundance of apples, plums and figs. And all around on our walks there are berries galore 🀩

When picking the berries one little one reminded her friends to ' mind the prickles, careful of the spiky bits' We collected the big, red and green apples from the garden, counting them into the bowl.

We washed the fruit, looked up our recipe for crumble and went to the shop to buy our missing ingredients. The children had an amazing memory and recalled all the items we needed, even at home later that evening πŸ‘Œ

We then weighed ingredients, mixed, peeled and cut the fruit, mixed the crumble with our hands describing what it felt like, and waited for the fruit to stew in the slow cooker. The smell was amazing πŸ€—
The best bit ... trying it when it was cooked πŸ€—πŸ€—

'Mummy makes crumble my house'
'Yummy'

🌊 Jellyfish Update 🌊

We've had a number of reports from beachgoers this morning, and our lifeguards have also spotted Moon Jellyfish and Compass Jellyfish along the beach today.

πŸͺΌ Moon Jellyfish are generally harmless and fascinating to see, but please avoid touching them, even if they've washed ashore.

πŸͺΌ Compass Jellyfish can give a painful sting, so it's best to give them plenty of space and keep children and dogs away from any stranded jellyfish.

Our lifeguards are keeping an eye on the situation, so if you're unsure about anything or think you've spotted one, come and have a chat with us.

Have a fantastic day and stay safe! β˜€οΈπŸŒŠ
