A few years ago I genuinely believed our next funding contract would solve our problems. More money, more learners, more opportunities, more growth.
Instead it exposed every weakness we’d been hiding. Not because we’d done anything wrong. Growth just has a habit of holding up a mirror.
The systems that worked with five people stopped working with twenty. The processes that only existed in my head became impossible to manage. And the hardest part to admit: almost everything still came back to me. I wasn’t building an organisation, I was building dependency.
Founders don’t become bottlenecks because they’re bad leaders. They become bottlenecks because they care.
People often introduce me as the funding expert and I’m proud of that. But funding has never been the thing that excites me most. Watching someone become the leader they never believed they could be, that’s what gets me out of bed.
Funding is a tool. People are the point.
So I'll ask you what I had to ask myself: what's the biggest thing holding your team back right now? Is it the systems, the people, or the fact that everything still runs through you?
I read every reply.
