Screen South is a cultural development organisation with digital creativity at its heart. We work with partners across a range of digital and creative projects in arts, heritage and on screen. We focus on nurturing a diverse range of new talent with training and progression as well as generating new productions, showcases and exhibitions. We currently lead on a number of ground-breaking programmes, including: Accentuate, Hi3 Digital Hub, New Creatives, Estuary on Film and we deliver a number of community and educational digital film initiatives including British Film Institute Kent Academy and Open Doors, Step Up.

THE INDUSTRY DAY PROGRAMME IS LIVE!

Calling all filmmakers, artists and documentary-curious creatives, tickets are now available for the Folkestone Documentary Festival Industry Day.

Join us at Creative Folkestone Quarterhouse on Friday 23 October for a jam-packed day exploring documentary film craft, funding, distribution and new approaches to connecting independent non-fiction projects with audiences.

Delivered in partnership with BFI Doc Society and Screen South, the day will bring together filmmakers, industry experts and fellow creatives for:
🎥 Inspiring presentations & case studies
💬 Panel discussions with filmmakers & industry professionals
🎬 Conversations around features, shorts & hybrid documentary projects
🤝 Networking & opportunities to meet potential collaborators
👥 Bookable 1-to-1 sessions with industry experts*

The day opens with a keynote from Glimmer Films Amplified, the creative distribution arm of Glimmer Films, with Jeanie Finlay and Suzanne Alizart exploring innovative approaches to documentary distribution and meaningful audience engagement.

And when the Industry Day wraps, the conversations can continue with networking drinks at Club Folkestone from 5pm, free for Industry Day ticket holders. 🍻

THE CLOCK IS TICKING… HAVE YOU MADE YOUR FILM YET?

There’s still time to take part in the Folkestone Documentary Festival Filmmaking Challenge 2026, but not much!

If you’ve got a story to tell about Kent, its people, places, communities or environment, this is your chance to get behind the camera and tell it.

Your documentary can be up to five minutes long, you can film it on your phone, and you don’t need expensive equipment or years of filmmaking experience.

We’re looking for stories from filmmakers of all ages and backgrounds, whether you’re an aspiring filmmaker, student, school, college, community group or simply someone with a story you think deserves to be told.

🏆 Prizes for Best Film and Best Environmental Film

🎥 Ten shortlisted films will be screened on the big screen at Folkestone Quarterhouse as part of Folkestone Documentary Festival.

And the winning films will receive a voucher for £1,000 worth of film equipment and supported post-production hire from Screen South.

CALLING ARTISTS & CREATIVES - APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN!

Ready to take your creative practice somewhere completely new?

Screen South is looking for 10 artists and creatives to join Lightscapes 2026–27, a FREE supported Projection Mapping Lab exploring the possibilities of moving image, animation, sound, digital imagery and light.

Working with specialist artist and projection mapping tutor Mike Eden (Routestock), you’ll learn new skills, experiment with digital tools and create original projection mapped work inspired by: DOVER: PAST • PRESENT • FUTURE

And you don’t need any previous projection mapping experience to apply.

We’re looking for curious creatives from a wide range of disciplines who want to experiment, develop their practice and explore what happens when art, technology, storytelling and public space collide.

CALLING FILM & CREATIVE ORGANISATIONS ACROSS THE SOUTH EAST

Could your organisation help inspire the next generation of film talent?

As the lead partner for BFI Film Academy South East, Screen South is looking for partner organisations to deliver BFI Film Academy Introductory Courses for young people aged 16–19 over the next three years.

We’re inviting applications from organisations able to deliver courses in:
📍 Buckinghamshire
📍 Berkshire
📍 Surrey
📍 West Sussex
📍 Oxford

The introductory courses will give young people an overview of the film industry, with a particular focus on below-the-line production roles, screen heritage, exhibition and distribution, helping participants discover the breadth of careers and opportunities available to them.

If your organisation has the experience, knowledge and passion to nurture emerging talent, we’d love to hear from you by Wednesday 23rd September 2026, 12pm.
